let's go trackside. >> one question that a lot of people are askingafter last week is, is the 48 team and jimmie johnson back to championship form? it certainly looked that way in chicagolandraceway when he led 118 laps yet to come home with a eighth place finish. johnson told me this morning he's hurricaneto make up for that. he wants to be among the championship fourgoing to homestead. today is a big step in that direction. >> kyle larson had some points to make funhe's to advance to the round of 12 in new

hampshire. not one of his better racetracks. but his crew chief said they came here witha new philosophy and the 42 is fast and comfortable to drive and kyle larson was fastest in everypractice session and he starts sixth today. >> kevin harvick's finish last week has himjust below the cut line to make it in the round of 12. but he's fast this weekend and expected toget to front. >> what does carl edwards have here at newhampshire? speed.

he won three of the last four poles. he don't have a win here. he said i have to revamp my approach to therace and try to get a win first one at new time to get the engines cranked up and getrace number two started in the chase. >> race fans the moment has arrived. here to give the command to start engines, please welcome your grand marshal, president and ceo of specialized vehicles, kevin holleran. new hampshire, say it with me. drivers, start your engines!

[ engines roaring ] >> 16 drivers all with the same goal at year'send. only nine races remain before we decide whowill be the 2016 champion. the next race in front of them, loudon, newhampshire. new hampshire motor speedway, green flag next.speedway, green flag next.ot you covered like a blanket on a pig. our plans cost little and our network is big. like a great, big gorilla in a pompadour wiggreat is great when big is biiiiiiiiiiig. you can text and like and swipe and stream.

it's the great, big network of your great, big dreams. it's the no duh uh-huh obvious callllllllllll. it's the great, big network, sending loveto us all. awwhawhwhawh ... this! this is why i love it here. that fresh air all up in your face. my cousin wilbur in the city has to wear aleash just to go for a stroll. i'm sorry, that...no. but with propane, you can live where you wantand how you want.

and since it's both clean and reliable, youcould say propane is "man's best fuel." she knows what i'm talking' about >>> i don't think you can take anything forgranted with so much on the line. you got to do everything right. >>> you know that every lap counts. >>> a mistake can take you right out, yourentire season is over. anything that goes wrong is magnified. >> a pressure situation is pretty much whatracing is about. >>> welcome back to the magic mile in loudon, new hampshire as we get ready for the second

race of the chase. let's take a look at the starting grid broughtto you by nationwide. up front, carl edwards, his third in the lastfour races but never won at this racetrack. he starts next to martin truex jr. who locked into the round of 12 last week. >> directly behind him is ryan newman nextto jimmie johnson. >> row three two chase contenders both lookingfor their first championship, denny hamlin and kyle larson. >> row four, jamie mcmurray and matt kenseth.

>> row five we have kasey kahne. and chase elliott ran here in july. >> row six, keselowski and kyle busch. >> row seven, kyle's brother kurt busch. one top ten in the last ten races at thistrack. >> home town hero log two-time winner startingnext to ryan blaney. >> row nine two drivers looking to spoil thischase talk, a.j. allmendinger and alex bowman. >> and he's had a lot of success at this racetracklet's chat with him.

>> jeff, you with us? >> hey. >> buddy you won the last two races here. can you make it three in a row? >> i don't know. guys are doing a great job on the car. have pretty good speed, pretty good drivabilityso far this weekend. see what the day brings us. track changes, keep up with that.

not make any mistakes. >> matt, we spend a lot of time this morningtalking about restarts and how important they are. tell us why they are so difficult at thisracetrack. >> well, the biggest thing here is restarts,to get the car too tight. so if we can get off good. >> buddy, good luck. we'll be watching. have a good day.

>> thank you, sir. >> starting in eighth position. we'll ride along with a few different drivers. one of those being kevin harvick. he has the hunt drivers pizza on board cameraand will start 19th today. alex bowman in the number 88 as the nationwidein car camera and will start in row nine. the ford on board camera being carried byjoey logano in the number 22 he starts 15th today in row eight. and elliott sadler has the chevy on boardcam remarks excuse me, chase elliott has the

chevy on board camera starts 10th. matt kenseth has the sprint on board cameraand will start in row four in eighth position. and denny hamlin in the number 11 has thecoca-cola on board camera and will start fifth. not only will we be age to ride along witha few different cars on track we'll also have some great aerial views and aerial coverageprovide by our partners at smithfield foods. take a look at the race analysis for today'srace. it's a 300 lap race. just over 317 miles. the pit road speed, 45 miles per hour.

and, again, the pit road sections that arecaught for speeding, loops they have to go through, there are more here than the lasttime they were at new hampshire. fuel window 84 to 88 laps. >> and we expect that window to come in toplay with teams at every race. some, where some team tries to stretch thatwindow stay out on caution, gain tracks position. we saw last year kevin harvick run out offuel. >> want to take a look at today's ram gutsand glory. >> it all starts with who will gamble withpit strategy. can you pit early and never pit again gettingthat track position.

>> the glory no bigger glory than win andadvance. that's what this playoff system is all aboutand why points are in place. if you can win today's race it's an automaticadvancement into 12. >> a cooler day today. will we see higher speeds or will the coolerspeeds make it slicker? >> on restarts more challenging. these tires like heat. reason why restarts is difficult this is avery flat racetrack, long straight. you enter the corners with tremendous amountof speed but no banking to told car and the

tires haven't had a chance to heat up. these cool temperatures will make restartsbetter. short runs more difficult. >> i don't expect to see a few cautions tosee restarts get crazy. initial start of the race, loin 300 laps. not like a normal start to the race. these drivers think about kevin harvick backin the field deeper than he wants to be. log outside of the top ten. other drivers like right here, alex bowmantrying to make something happen early.

>> if it goes continuously green they couldfinish this green with just three pit stops. we don't expect that to happen because we'veseen a lot of cautions at this racetrack. as people get aggressive and there could bea little contact. not only on the restarts but fighting forposition around the magic mile. everyone lined up behind the 19 of carl edwards. once again winning the pole here at loudon, new hampshire. on the outside most recent winner, martintruex jr. race number two of the chase is under way! >> already see jamie mcmurray drop under the11 car, making it three wide.

>> going to make it three wide. you see how low that 31 of ryan newman is. get your car straight and really apply poweras hard as you can. >> great start for carl edwards, a driverwho has had success in qualifying, but has not been able to find victory lane. he's out front, martin truex jr. behind him. jimmie johnson, kyle larson, ryan newman thechasers in the top five. >> denny hamlin started fifth but that restartwasn't good.

he lost some spots already. >> you heard matt kenseth talk about it, jeff. just compromise. how are you good on the restart? will you have enough security in your carthat the tires don't flip around. you see him overtake ryan newman. the fear is your car will start rolling tothe middle of the corner. see how well 20 changed the direction he clearedthe 31. >> so newman, the nonchaser dropped back tosixth.

carl edwards out front. martin truex jr. setting the pace. >> that 11 car having trouble. his teammate matt kenseth get-together onthe exit of turn four. that's aggressive racing that's all that is. we'll see that all day long at this racetrack. >> contact made now should the 20 be nervousabout that left rear tire that there was some rub that happened there between two drivers. >> in this chase competition you can't afforda bad race.

they will keep an eye interest. as we ride along with chase elliott listento the race car hitting the racetrack. >> basically all the way around the cornershe's trying to make mover around ryan newman. these cars want to ride as low air pressureas they can. makes the car ride low on the racetrack. you hear the car bottoming it out and hypotheticalingthe racetrack. >> as we were listening to that we were listeningin to the radio of 11 of denny hamlin who had this to say about the incident with the20. >> number 20, ran into him.

number 20, check his left wheel got into it. >> so communication is going to the spotterand letting them know hey you guys need to check the left rear because we ran into it. >> a little bit worried about each other. >> makes you wonder a little bit about 11. if he tnt get a little bit of damage. a little bit of fender damage. he's all the way back in 10th place. lost five spots in seven laps.

>> right front may be a concern for the 11and left rear concern for the 20, matt kenseth. that was the contact. chase elliott, ster that has come so closethis season totting his first win. >> the 24 has to get off the gas and allowthe 18 back. the patience kyle busch has to put yourselfin that position. be on the bumper of the 24. you can't hit him. wait for him to make a mistake or somehowexit the corner little lower. >> kyle busch just did that.

let's go to his teammate the 20, and mike. >> i just checked within the team to see whetheror not they were concerned about a possible tire rub. they just shook their head. matt hasn't said anything. as far as they know everything is good. >> just a little bit of contact early in thisrace. they hope it doesn't affect anything at leastget their first pit stop. >> kyle larson, how out of control he wascompared to the 20.

kyle in the 42 could not keep the car at thebottom of the racetrack and opened the door for matt kenseth and he took advantage ofit. >> in kyle larson's case we've seen greatamounts of speed early this weekend as far as early in the run but then it seems to falloff. he doesn't seem table to maintain the speedseverybody else has been able to hold on to. very flat racetrack. carl edwards. kurt busch, brad keselowski, 11th and 12th. >> something very unique about this racetrackas you watch these race cars go around the

corners. they are not on the bottom of the racetrack. the bottom of the racetrack that yellow linethat's the bottom of the racetrack. they are a lane above that. the reason why is below those white linesabove that yellow line there is a banking, left banking there, so there's less grip. why is it hard to pass here because they gounderneath someone you have to go where there's less banking. one of the many reasons why this racetrackis challenging.

it's been a challenge all week. the number 3 had an accident on friday. now in a back up car. no speed in the back up car. qualified outside of the top 30. running in the 30th position. haven't gained any position in the first 12laps of this race. this 3 has to find something over the 300laps or find him sachbl must-win situation at dover.

>> drivers trying to stay out of a must-winsituation. we're in the second race of the round of 16. carl edwards out front.k if you could hearme now, but i switched to sprint! for people with hearing loss, visit sprintrelay.comgo paperless, don't stress, girl i got the discounts that you needsafe driver accident-freeeverybody put your flaps in the air for me go paperless, don't stress, girli got the discounts that you need safe driveraccident-free everybody put your flaps in the air for mei can't lip-synch in these conditions.

i'm building world-changing machines. with my two hands. does that threaten you? no! don't be silly. i'm just, uh, going to go to chop some wood. with that? yeah we don't have an ax. or a fireplace.

the last two times that carl edwards has wonthe pole he has actually lost the lead on lap 20 in each of those races as we closein on lap 20. marty. >> trying to hold on to the lead right nowas that 19 of carl edwards. we talked about how quick they are in qualifyingbut can't put it together for trees. carl looked at data from his teammate mattkenseth who has been very good here at new also some video. he said i learned i need to attack this raceway. i know how to go fast by myself.

it's a different package to run well herein the race. i think nobody knows better than that thanjeff burton. one of those differences that you have todo in the race versus qualifying. >> this racetrack has very, very long corners, very flat corners. if you try to pass someone in the middle ofthe corner it's not going to work. it's about building the momentum on cornerentry and then on corner exit. if you're making your car go faster in themiddle that's great for qualifying and great for running by yourself. if you catch a guy like 78 catches the 19there's nowhere to go.

you have to be good on corner entry and exitand break wean them in the middle of the corner in racing in trying to pass. on qualifying you need to be every where. there's a difference between passing somebodyand laying a lap time down. >> a very difficult racetrack. let's listen to the 19 on communications. >> 78 in the center. running two, three, four pretty even. >> on the same line.

just across center. >>> that was spotter coverage presented byliberty mutual insurance helping drivers worry less. spotters looking just above the press box. >> the pressure in these playoffs, i don'tknow if it will help the drivers worry less. all these drivers are worried. this is a track that brings concern becauseeven as good as some of these cars are running only 24 laps in and they know there's cautioncoming, chaos coming and have to be patient let their car coming in.

that's what lar is doing. we saw earlier he fell back a little bit. seems like his car is getting better. they weren't good in the long run in practice. seems they made some adjustments to the 42and finding that long run speed. >> it allowed them time to work on these racecars. at the end of the final practice yesterdaythey still could make adjustments to try to put the car exactly the way they feel it wouldbe most beneficial for them in this race and right now the 48 is running in the top fivein that fourth position as kyle larson dropped

back just a bit from there and 18 of kylebusch has dropped back to the sixth spot. >> focusing on the 34 of chris buescher comesinto this race in a fairly deep hole, 12 points back. teunderdog for sure in this race. he said we still have a shot. the thing is we need to score top tens inthe next of these two race. the challenge is new hampshire. not one of his favorite tracks. he spent a lot of time this week in the.

simulator working on his entry trying to perfectthis racetrack. it's given him fits in the past. knows he needs better if he wants to advance. >> austin dillon is just below the cut line. so to help improve his chances, he replacedhis pit crew team with the team that helped paul menard last week. you hate to make moves like that. but it's in the best interest to win a championship. >>> sometimes you just have to do what youhave to do and this 3 car they struggled so

much. wrecked on friday we talked about in practice. had to get the back up car after qualifyingthey changed the seat in this car. he was not comfortable with the way the seatfelt. took the seat out of the back up car and putit in the primary car. we heard the crew chief say everything butthe seat, but this team changed everything and the seat. >> they felt whatever they could do to giveaustin dillon the best feel. edwards continues to lead.

let's check it out. do any of you have kids? i do yes. this car has a feature built in called teendriver technology, which lets parent's see how their teens are driving. oh, that's smart. it even mutes the radio until the seat beltis fastened. will it keep track of how many boys get itin the car? (laughter) cause that could be useful.

this is ahead of what my audi has for sure. wish my beamer had that. i didn't even know that technology existed. i'm not in the market for a car but now imay be. hey, track bar's broken. she keeps jumpin' out of gear. whadya wanna do? can you feel it? oh, coca-cola.

eh, i should probably go. can you feel it?(humming) so you're up at dawn,k, , look alive. you've been saving for a big man-cave. (chuckling) good luck with that, dave. you made the most of your retirement plan,so you better learn to drive that rv, man. so many things you're doing in your life. nationwide is on your side. >>> you can follow nascar on twitter, usehash tag the chase to join the conversation.

let your voice be heard. riding along with alex bowman. running 13th. out in front now martin truex jr. able to get by carl edwards and take overthe top spot. take a look at how it happened. >> he was able to maintain center of the corner. once you get that spot, spot is yours. carl edwards gives it up.

right now carl edwards understands that it'sdangerous not be smart. >> martin truex jr. led 123 laps here in julybut broken shifter in second place on lap 265 dropped him all the way back to 16. for a few updates let's go to mike. >> with that run back here in july they comewithin a sense of confidence. the victory in the chase opener, also giventhem some freedom, so much in fact that i was told the reason his over the wall guyswere preparing the car for eric jones because they won the race last week. there was discussion amongst the toyota teamif you have one, their team will have the

freedom to go to kentucky to pit without muchconsequence. they are playing with that freedom. >> his team payment behind him carl edwardsin second led the first 30 laps. he told me earlier this is the best chancei ever had to win a sprint cup series championship. we have all the tools, all the pieces, it'sup to me to make it happen. now the laps look too tight. >> matt kenseth pretty quiet on the radioso far but he did say his biggest concern here was guesting a read on the racetrack. i had a little difficulty with that back injuly.

jason radcliff his crew chief told me 100,maybe 150 laps, we'll be paying close attention to get that read. jimmie johnson coming in here with new foundspeed from a week ago when he led the most laps. he has a very good race car getting past bykyle busch. he felt his biggest concern is when the trackheated up when that loses grip and not sure how the car will react. >> last year championship kyle busch, hadan indy championship race and more than happy to employ that same strategy.

this year it's all a numbers game. this number would like to get inside the topfive but make no mistake he's up eight, running fourth now. >> here's chase elliott, 34th. alex gusterson was worried about this race. doing much fwhert time around. chase running inside the top ten with a carthat's too tight. he's tried move up the racetrack a littlebit like kevin harvick has been doing. >> kyle larson is in the chase for the firsttime in his career.

when they looked at the chase schedule hiscrew chief pointed thought race here at loudon. felt it was their weakest race. he told me if we can get through this race,if we can get through this round we have as good a shot as racing for the championshipat miami as anyone. kyle larson said he's way too loose. tight in the middle. .>> coming into the chase, jamie mcmurray expressed his confidence. feels he can be a legitimate threat.

they felt like they a better race car. could have had a better result trying to makeup for that today. so far he said the car is really loose andexpect to tighten it up on their first stop down on pit road. >> kevin harvick's car was quote stupid goodoff the truck and felt they would be good all day. kevin said the car is good and passing cars. he pick up nine spots. >> after winning the daytona 500 the 11 teamof denny hamlin felt they were in a slump

halfway through this season. they were kind of down on themselves. that's changed. they put together nine straight, a careerbest for denny hamlin trying to keep that streak alive today. right now denny hamlin says the 11 car isreally loose. >> this morning, paul wolf told me we needto finish in the top ten. dover next week is not a good track for us. right now they are running just outside ofthe top ten for brad keselowski in the 12th

position. car is loose in one and very tight in mid. three and one and two as well. back behind him is kurt busch. kurt a little bit too loose in the centerof corner. finished 13th at chicago last week. puts them in a much different position. when we finished third in that race, tonygibson told me we have to play this race defensively because of our top ten and joey logano struggling.

two and a half years since his 22 team hasfinished worse than fourth here at new hampshire. i was told this morning, he said our car wemade tons of changes hoping we went the right direction. we were a 10th place car at best getting pasttony stewart. >> nice pass of the 14. crew chief told me this morning we didn'tcelebrate finishing 16th at chicagoland. we figured we might be a 35th place car itwas somewhat of a victory and present this day as a day not to do something stupid insteadof day where we have to risk. >> rick?

>> thanks. thanks for getting us through from the topspot all the way down to 15th, chase drivers a week ago martin truex jr. slid by his positioninto the round of 12 with his win at chicagoland and already he's back out front at loudon. how's it going? hi. today we're gonna be comparing the roll formedhigh strength steel bed of the chevy silverado, to the aluminum bed of this competitor's truck. awesome.

alright let 'em drop. (crashing noise) whoooo! let's see how the aluminum bed of this truckheld up. wooooow!! oooo...holy moly. that's a good sized puncture. that's all the way through for sure. full on crack here. you hear aluminum now you're gonna go ew.

let's check out the silverado steel bed. wow. yeah a couple of dents. i'd expect more dents. chevy clearly held out better than the ford. shop like a pro at bass pro shops with twobig sales to gear up and save. like select bass pro ball caps for only $5. and a pursuit laser rangefinder for under$120 after rebate. bass pro shops.

>> this is the fourth race for alex bowmansubstituting for dale earnhardt jr. in the 88 car. it started right here in new hampshire injuly. i talked with alex this morning. asked him how things have changed with himwith this ground since then. he said i'm a lot calmer. i'm not so overwhelmed by the whole situation. our cars are getting faster. last week chicagoland a 10th race finish andrunning well again today, guys.

>> alex bowman, look at his rear bumper andlook just above the spoiler, trying figure out what line those cars are running behindyou. it will come in handy late in these runs. but his teammate kasey kahne had to startat the rear of the field for that track bar adjuster he had to change pre-race. he went back to 19th position. >> steve, you know how that track bar adjusterneeds used during inspection and that's where they diskoifrtd. they had to deploy it and found out it's notworking.

>> great time to find it because during therace while it isn't required to go out and make last if the driver can't move that trackbar on his own that's a big disadvantage. >> we talked about it, hendrick motorsports. alex bowman said the car is continue to getfaster. definite improvement in speed. we talked jimmie johnson needs to take advantage. he did. chase elliott in sixth. alex bowman in 12th and kasey kahne dug hisway from the back and in 19th.

drive the center of these corners aggressivelyand really if you think about chase elliott he's an aggressive driver but not on cornerentry. he carries a lot of speed in the middle ofthe corner. there's sfeebd had. just another example of how these drivershave changed. years ago you just went out and drove theway you wanted to. not as much information or technology. today a lot of technology, a lot of film,a lot of data drivers can take advantage of to make themselves better.

>> one of the drivers that have originatedthat high line was kevin harvick. kevin harvick likes to enter the racetrackand you'll see at times in the race he'll exit. he hasn't used that strategy yet. he's been almost to the apron. but in that 4 car he found speed longer inthe run. he isn't quite as fast as our leader martintruex, jr. who is lapping austin dillon the second chasecar. he already lapsed chris buescher.

kevin harvick on tires doesn't seem to findimportant more competitiveness. >> we've gone 66 laps and no caution. >> not at all. >> green flag town start this race. >> lap 200 at new hampshire. don't let the first 200 laps think it's adifferent race. it will time and time again and from lap 200on we'll have five, six, seven, eight yellows. the beginning of this race is normally calm. the second half can be crazy.

maybe four yoels. second half at least five all the way backto 2014. 13 yellows in just the second half of thisrace. this is a track and this is a race that wealways see the intensity wasn't that intensity with the restarts come more yellows. >> fighting for third carl edwards, kyle busch. teammates. right now the top four all toyotas and behindthem it's seven chevrolets. out front.

>> the car has just done something good forlog. he said we're bad every where. everything i do to fix the car inside therewas with track bar adjustment makes the car a little bit worse. a wedge adjustment and air pressure tryingto get this car to work better for log. biggest problem tight in the center and bigwedge just on that left side. >> denny hamlin had his hands full as wellwith the 11 dropping back a few spots. he said he's about an eighth loose from thecenter off. three loose on exit.

no fuel for the 11. now ryan newman who started this race fromthe third position said that his car has been loose and tight through the center. going to make a big adjustment. four cars and fuel. >> jamie mcmurray now making his stop. he's been complaining about having a veryloose race car. four tire change and an air pressure adjustment. >> kurt busch on pit road took a longer run.

felt the car was too right rear dominant meaningit was way too loose. got cool towards the end of that run. adjusting air pressure. >> kevin harvick running ninth during thisrun. four tires, sunoco fuel. he said i can't be any freer but i need thefront to hang with me longer. 4 team of tony stewart on pit road as well. this car was tight in the middle of the corner. air pressure adjustment.

kasey kahne on pinpoint road up to 19th from39th in the 5 car. >> remember because of a penalty last weekchase elliott and his team lost pit selection. that's all they have. brad keselowski in front of them. the 2 car will not be here during this spitstop. off of the corner. going be an air pressure adjustment and freshtires. >> austin dillon needs an adjustment for hisrace car. he got one.

biggest thing he's been doing is adjustinghis line. whatever you learn there keep doing it. >> kyle stayed out. his car, he's pretty happy. started to get a little bit loose. his crew chief asked whether or not to makeany adjustments. four tires and sunoco fuel for the m&m machine. >> two cars have not come to pit road onebeing brad keselowski, and the other one casey mears.

>> i understand the casey mears car tryingto stay out to hopefully catch a caution. but a little concerning or confused by bradkeselowski. only thing i can think of is perhaps theyare only going to do this on three stops. so basically they want to run as far as theycan early in this race try to make their last pit stop on the freshest tires. this early in the race you would expect cautionto dictate the next two pit stops. brad will be coming to pit road. >> bradtke keys comes down pinpoint road,45 miles per hour the speed limit as he goes on his way to marty snider.

>> we've seen paul wolf and this team do itbefore. different pit strategies than anybody else. brad is very good in those scenarios and keepshis focus which is keys for the driver. a different strategy than everybody else. the car is tight in the center and needs driveoff especially turn four. that's my weakest spot. casey mears the other car staying out, wedgeadjustment on the right side with his teams two fresh tires and sunoco fuel. >> what they might be doing is one point tolead a lap.

staying occupant those extra laps brad keselowskileads a lap gets that bonus point opinion we saw haw close points can mean. >> almost everyone has gone to pit road now. greg biffle the only one that has not gonedown pit road up to this point. we're guessing he'll be on his way to pitroad shortly as everyone cycles through, martin truex, jr. had a 1.2 second lead over matt kenseth beforethe pit stops started and now it's a 1.8 second lead. one smart choice leads to the next.

and you see kyle busch closing in on the 48of jimmie johnson. they have moved up to the third and fourthposition. kyle busch trying to set up the 48 see ifhe can get by. >> kyle busch was ahead of johnson beforethe green flag pit stop but jimmie johnson came two laps early than kyle busch in thatcycle. but now the 18 of kyle busch is showing whyhe was in front of him before that pit stop. he has a little bit better car and now heturns better. he can exit lower than the 48 and johnsonconcedes the spot. >> so important table to roll that secondpart of the corner as you try to get to the

exit of the concern. you can turn underneath the guy in front muchyou that's how you accelerate. be fafrt in the middle of the corner doesn'tgain you the opportunity to pass somebody. you have to be fast on concern exit to takeadvantage of a faster car. 18 car of kyle busch, these guys have to behappy where they are right now. >> everybody came to pit road. no speeding penalties even with the additionalloops. everyone got through their green flag pitstops without any penalties. mike.

>> that was a big sigh of relief for everybodyincluding jimmie johnson no doubt because you think back to last week that's prettymuch what ruined his race after dom night and leading the most laps a speeding penalties. so much in fact his team went to work thisweek trying to polish up those speeding penalties on pinpoint road. jimmie told me this morning they actuallyin addition to spending time in the simulator they set up timing lines in a park lot. five timing zones all together. he would run through them with his chicagolandcar trying to get a better understanding of

the data so that what happened last week doesnot happen again. jimmie said they learned something. they changed the settings on the digital dashso he's better and helps him here this afternoon. >> mike, nobody has more speeding penaltieswith the new zone than the 48 team. they definitely had to practice not only awayfrom the track but also doing it here at the track during practice. >> again we saw the 48, jimmie johnson, assoon as the racetrack opened he immediately started to hit pit road. he came down pit road between four and sixtimes working on his pit road speed, working

on the entry, trying to find a way to maximizepit road speed. ichts not easy for jimmie johnson not to speedon pit road but you give up so much time to people who push the limit. he had to find a way to do it well. he has to have good time on pinpoint roadnot just slow down. the right way is go the maximum speed withouta penalty. >> we talk about tolerances that nascar giveson the different rules. they do the same thing on pinpoint road. pinpoint road speed is 45 miles per hour.

nascar gives them five miles per hour tolerance. they can go 50 miles per hour on pit road. if they go 49.9. they can go right up to that 50 miles perhour. if they go to 50 they get a speeding penalty. >> if jimmie johnson wants to fix that problemby going down 459 and exceptors are coming down at 49.5 he'll get beaten badly on pitroad and so it's how you fix this problem is what's important. he knows it needs to be fixed but fixing itcorrectly is the right thing to do.

>> with the additional lines how many morespeeding penalties he got this year alone. >> been a tremendous amount more because loopsare smaller. when we talked about brad keselowski choseto stay on the racetrack, he pitted four laps after martin truex, jr. our leader. before the pit stop he was 15 and a half secondsbehind martin truex, jr.. four extra laps on the racetrack on thoseold tires, cost brad keselowski seven seconds. he's currently over 22 seconds behind martintruex, jr.. so while there was a bonus point awarded forleading that lap it definitely cost the 2

a long time on the racetrack. >> and also cost him three spots. some picked up, he gained a point bipartisanleading the lap but gave up three spots to do it. >> we talked earlier, guys about how worriedthey are about dover next week. paul wolf is trying to bank as many pointsas he can this weekend. paul wolf told me hey we learned last weekwith all the speed the 78 car brought to chicagoland, we have our work cut-out for us for roundtwo of the chase. we got to get a bunch better because our bodieshave to get ready.

also the new rules now in nascar that skewrule opened up and there are teams that have that figured out better than we have it figuredout. we have two obstacles, one we need to makeour bodies better and two we have to figure that new curve. you have to figure out another aspect to getbetter. >> that's the frustrating thing for the fansfor nascar. nascar seat very big window of power witha very severe penalty with the idea that would give the team a window to make sure they don'tget penalized. crew chiefs see opportunity.

they will go to work to find a way to ache80, 85, 90% tolerance but beware first team that steps over that penalty very severe. >> right now martin truex, jr. still out front. he's 34re6d laps already.n. what's next? oh, coca-cola! you're gonna show this whole world. you're gonna shine!

does that to change the way you call thisrace. >> they will come. as a crew chief you have to believe in thestats. if you think there will be cautions you can'tchange i want yet. i much rather in on the side hedging my bettson the second half of this race it will be caution filled. at this point what can do you. work on your race car. make it drive really well.

when you need fuel you come to pit road. >> i'll tell you one thing i want changesthe strategy when you get this long green flag run, are you going a lap down. if you're a chase racer and joey logano, forexample, he's in 17th place. there's only one car between he and the leader. joey logano and his team the strategy is wegot to find a way to get speed. panic is setting in. the leader is coming. he's going put us a lap down.

this team has to find speed and they needa caution to stay in the lead lap. >> in july had had a similar race on the 22team. they felt like their standard set up was justa top five. thoeptd find a winning set up. they migrated back to what they normally know. they have that ability today. they are struggling. log said 20 laps into this run i've lost allof my front turns and now they are watching that 78 coming quickly and certainly don'twant to go down a lap.

>> they have an ability to migrate. on the next pit stop they will head that way. remember the weather is totally different. it was very hot, humid here in the spring. we heard crew chief talk in practice trackwould take rubber. chad johnson the 42 crew chief told kyle larsontrust me this cool weather will change the way that the track takes rubber the way thebalance shifts. currently not agreeing with the 22 car. >> one driver moving in the right directionis the 4 of kevin harvick.

started in the 19th position all the way upto sixth. >> car is still very good. his crew chief and i were talking about lastyear's race where kevin dominated, leading 216 out of 300 laps to finish 21st. he reminded me not because we had bad ridiculecal sue allocations but we ran out of fuel. they brought the car to pit road. here's video on the left showing what theydid. conventional wisdom and old way the gas canwent to the car to get air bubbles out this way more fuel in.

according to rodney the new system is so emissionby shaking it back and forth you let air in there and he said we packed in more air thanwe should have and ran out of fuel with two laps to go. you won't see that today. rodney said we learned a big lesson. >> lesson learned. that's how you continue to run for championships. you learn every time out on track. >> great when you can learn a lesson and havea driver and car go fast enough to go dover.

that's what they had to do last year whenthey got themselves in trouble they to find a way to go to dover and win that race. today with a fast race car they need to execute. they don't want to go to dover in that samesituation. >> just as quickly as you mentioned one carbetween joey logano and martin truex, jr.. that car now is not there. so log the next car to go a lap down, martintruex, jr. has been setting a blistering pace already. his last lap 32.57 seconds.

log last lap 33.783 seconds. >> this affects martin truex, jr.. he sees the 22. knows this was a championship contender. this is a championship contender and to passhim, lap him under green at new hampshire has got to be proving a point to the 22, thatthe 78 would love to make. >> oh, yes. that's a great feeling. now the 22 of joey logano he has to stay focused.

he has to stay in the game here and try tostay with 278. hope a caution comes around or comes occupantso he can be the first car a lap down. the fight just started with log. the car is much slower than i want needs bebut he can't give up. he has to continue to fight. >> was talking with the crew chief for the22, and todd made the comment to me we're not going to do anything crazy. we're not doing anything as far as strategygoes to try to do anything other than finish in the top ten.

he said that's the goal for this first rounds. we swept all of the races in the second round. we just need get there. >> right now log just went a lap down. and team may want brad keselowski is the nexton the target for martin truex, jr.. 16 cars on the lead lap. cing -- picking up for martin truex, jr.. great is great when big is biiiiiiiiiiig. well this here's a load-bearing wall.

we'll go ahead and rip that out. that'll cause a lot of problems. hmm. totally unnecessary and it triples the budget. we'll be totally behind schedule, right? (laughs)schedules. schedules. great, okay. wouldn't it be great if everyonesaid whatthey meant?

making the car turn. >> you mentioned the flat part of the racetrack. two to seven degrees of banking. >> if your car is tight you can cut that leftfront tire on the apron. turn the car come off low and straight. there are multiple ways to get through thesecorners at new hampshire. >> drivers got to be twoilg look around, gotto be twoilg try different things. as you see your competitors they are doingsomething. they are fast.

you try to do what they are doing as well. really just a matter of lap times. matter of you looking out the windshield tryingto come with a plan, giving you lap times. you know if it's better or not. now we got caution. >> debris going into turn number one broughtought the first caution. and the 123 laps complete. they are on lap 124. first caution came out.

and long enough, brad keselowski looked likehe was on the lead lap. a.j. allmendinger may have been in front of joeylogano so that could have saved the 2 of brad keselowski but hurt joey logano as far asgetting the free pass. we'll take a listen what will take place withnascar as to who gets the free pass. it is going be the 47 of a.j. allmendinger will receive the free pass thatmeans log will still be a lap down as is austin dillon and chris buescher the other two chasedrivers that have been lapsed by martin truex, jr..

>> that's why that race when you get lappedyou have to don't race, you have to continue to battle, by a.j. allmendinger by not giving up he was ableto get that free pass by being the first car one lap down. >> one thing with bad keselowski running inthe 16th position you heard marty snierd report the 24 because he lost his pit pick is pittingright behind keselowski. keselowski late to pit road coming in frontof 24. chase elliott has to start back in the pitbox to get out clean. >> and on the lead lap heading to pit roadright now.

>> matt kenseth seeking his third consecutivenew hampshire win saying the car has been free in the center but otherwise pretty goodlook for a four tire change and fuel. also saying he's been a little bit free, threetires and sunoco race fuel. >> and for the second time he's asked forno changes to the 18 car. four tires and fuel for the 18. >> chase elliott saying he lost trots on throttle. we'll watch for him getting around that 2car. gets around him cleanly. >> the race off pit road brought to you bygeico.

chase elliott, there was a question if chaseelliott would have had a difficult situation because of the pit selection. >> did a great job. the thing coming down pit road on the in carcamera, look at the signs hanging up, it will get dropped. his left front fender, left front headlighthit that sign. that's his cue where stop. >> up look at the pit stop you see how farback the 24 car is. he does a good joplin accelerating.

24 chase elliott drives into that stall toodeep and 2 has to come around them that ruins their day. 24 doing a nice job so far in this race tryingto recover from that. >> actually gained a spot as you guy mentionedon pit road. couldn't get going. talked to former nfl player whose front tirecarrier for the 24 team and he said we moved the tape. moving it back three and a half feet backbecause we knew this would be an issue. we wanted to make sure we stopped short enough.

twice alan gusterson reminded chase we'restopping short so we can get around 2. great job by that young man to make sure therewere no problems on pinpoint road. >> listening in on 24 radio as they were watchingthe pit stop on replay and coaching as far as how well they did. >> i watched that replay. got around that 2. i don't think that was the majority. >> so what alan was talking about, chase saidhe had trouble getting going meaning when he let the clutch out the car didn't acceleratelike he wanted to.

he had the wheel turned to the right. like he had brakes on the car. the wheel turned so sharply the car can'taccelerate. that's what alan was talking to them about. >> chase came in sixth, went out sixth, didn'tlose a spot so everything worked out well for the 24. now as you both have touted we're gettingready to see a restart and see things get crazy. >> you see the mark.

that mark right there that little l that'swhere chase should put his left front tire in the pit box. this area right here, the gentleman is standingon here and the mark. the idea is left front tire should stop there. >> what is the gentleman doing with the bottle. he's spring a chemical on pit road to makemore grit, make the tires adhere to the racetrack when he accelerates. so sometimes that's simple folk. you can walk down pit road before the raceyou see women with sandals.

>> we'll listen to chase elliott get out ofthe pit box. this is him pulling into his pit box. he gets in nice. stops right on his sign. as the crew goes to work. 2 up here in front of chase. listen to the work chase does with the clutchto get these rear tires to hook up. that is a nice job. very easily -- he just dumps, the rear tirespins the car doesn't accelerate.

very easy to stall the car. while alan continues to work on doing thatbetter i give that team an a-plus for the first time in the sworts situation with bradkeselowski running deep in field. >> let's look at martin truex, jr. currently first. matt kenseth, kyle busch second, third, carledwards seventh, denny hamlin eighth. front row as martin truex, jr. choosing theoutside line. and on the inside is matt kenseth. has chosen the outside.

green flag back in the air. great restart for the 78 of martin truex,jr.. as well as jimmie johnson on the 48 on theoutside line making it work incredible one and two. >>> you have to watch a couple of battleson the racetrack not this battle. deeper in the field. log couple of spots behind. joey logano was last early by martin truex,jr.. he needs to find that free pass position.

>> up can see what happened token ken. he was on the bottom of the racetrack. everybody pinned him down to the lower grooveof the racetrack. this lower banking at the bottom of the racetrackand they got him down there and he lost a lot of spots because of that. >> the battle for the free pass this raceright here is the most important part. the leader knows he has 150 laps. log has to get on lap. kevin harvick moved a lap with a great racecar but never could get the timing right.

joey logano has to battle here and clear the21 of ryan blaney to have that opportunity. >> he gets in the free pass position. this is the situation that kevin harvick wasin a week ago. kevin harvick would get into free pass positionbut because of the long green flag runs there would be the race leader getting by some othertraffic. some slower traffic. he's lapping slower traffic and then the personthat was in the free pass loses that opportunity because they are not the highest scored personon the lead lap or one lap behind. >> a lot of contact here between the 88.

>> one guy really sideline the middle of thecorner we keep talking about it. you just don't make a lot of grip. so the one got slow in the corner, the 88gave it a shot. >> kyle busch, carl edwards. carl edwards out in the eighth position justbehind kyle busch. as kevin harvick now in front of that 18. harvick has worked all the way up to sixthafter starting 19th. and then now has been able to get back upto the sixth spot. >> we talk about different lines right hereyou'll see a really low entry.

he'll stay low. as we watch both cars enter the er enter onthe boechlt racetrack. 18 purposely going up the lane, slowing thecar down, getting a turn. trying to gain ground on kevin harvick downthe first straightaway. >> teammates fighting for position. chase elliott in the 24. jimmie johnson in the 48. those two fighting for the second spot nowas chase elliott looks to the inside. >> look at this picture right here.

i'm watching the path of hendrick motorsportsand future of hendrick motorsports. jimmie johnson six time champion. hendrick motorsports chase takes over the24 of jeff gordon. while he hasn't won a race i don't think anybodywill be surprised when he does. here they are battling for the second position. >> saw chase get under the 48. got loose and had to abandoning. did a nice job of keeping the car off theside of 48. you can see chase is just a little bit quickerbut jimmie gets that run on the concern exit.

even though chase truns middle good the 48can beat him on corner exits. >> alan guster son said they finished 34thin this race. he said if chase is going to finish well todayhe's going to have to earn it. the car is not going comfortable but everycar they have that's been faster, has not been comfortable. what you always say it's not a ride contestit's a speed contest. sometimes behind the wheel it's not comfortable. >> absolutely right, marty. you can make cars drive comfortably.

this is a race. it's a contest of speed. the goal is not easy. the goal is fast. >> fastest has been martin truex, jr. out front for 104 laps already. >> and just an update on the guy that chaseis chasing and that's johnson. believe me he's very much aware his teammateis right back there but his concern is make being sure he finds speed.

he told me before the race he said what we'rereally worried about is the track itself loses grip and that's where we lose the handle onthis race car. so much that chad knaus told jimmie run higheron the racetrack. the track temps might be cool there are andmaybe a little bit better for this race car and what he needs but at the same time asyou guys can see can't afford to go too high because it opens the door for chase elliott. >> battle for third as matt kenseth has closedthe gap and right on the back bumper of the 24 of chase elliott. kenseth has been so successful at this racetrack, especially over the past four races, is working

>> then all of these teams we talked aboutthe laser and skew, look at the left side tire of the 24. air pressure and load on the wheel, how muchthe suspension moves around. this is what happens in racing conditions. chase won't concede this spot he'll don'tbattle. turn three watch how much the contact andtires move around on this racing car on the left side. >> kevin harvick all the way on the left side. he's going to try to turn and lean reallylow.

they will get a lap back. chris buescher goes from one lap down to twolaps down. a strategy call for these leaders. chris buescher will pass the pace car andgo around and catch the back of the field. >> pretty close call for the 4 team on pitroad. take a look at this. has to catch the tire and sometimes they willbounce off the wall and bounce back out as we saw at chicagoland last week with aricalmirola but he was able to kacht. >> good thing.

the 78 don't get loose. >> is this the strategy move by the 78 forthe next time on pit road where they might change only two tires. >> i think it's the opposite. this puts them behind. the two tires are going put them where theyneed four tires on the next pit stop where some of these teams will change only two. this was a strategy call not willing to giveup that valuable track position. that's a decision you have to make.

he made it. it was a gamble. we'll have to see if it pace off. >> they are learning what their car does ontwo tires but the entire field is watching. i promise you the entire field is paying attentionif the 78 can continue to run well like the 18. the next caution if we don't go too long you'llsee a lot of two tire stops. >> cole is sitting up there relaxed. we got to win.

but also can't wreck his teammate in the laugh. this right here is a nice run, jimmie johnsonhas to concede the position. dmoes 5 cut him a little slack on turn four. >> you said it. it's a difficult place to be. when you're not in the chase you don't wantto be the story, you don't want to be involved in something where a chase guy got in a wreckand caused it. at the same time this racetrack belongs toyou as much as them. you have a right to go out and win this raceand get a good finish.

it's a balance between aggressiveness andrespect for guys who are trying to win the championship. >> tough spot to be in, kasey kahne runningeighth. only nonchaser in the top 13. he's there with 12 other chase drivers. we've said it last weekend we'll say it thisweekend and say it again at dover. there's at that reason these 15 teams haveneed playoffs because they continually run upfront. kasey kahne is the exception to the rule.

>> other highest nonchase runner on the trackis ryan newman running 14th. >> no matter the outcome of this race plentyof reason for his crew chief to celebrate. he and his wife welcomed their third childthis week a little girl named ruby lynn. he got home from the race just in time tobe bedside with his wife while she was at the hospital and here in new hampshire he'sstill wearing the little i.d. tag with his wife's name. he brought it here as a good luck charm. his wife and other two children are all healthy, happy. happy to now have a little baby sister.

but it was a special good luck charm on hiswrist today. >> congratulations to luke and jamie. birth of ruby lynn. ryan newman continuing to fight for that 14thspot. i look at the 42 of kyle larson and here'sa driver who was outside the top 12 in points, has shown great speed for the short term forthis racetrack, but we've seen long green flag runs and that means kyle larson droppingdown. he's running 12th. >> that's this racetrack.

this racetrack is so difficult to be goodon a short run and long run. it's not that big of a deal until you addto him what happened in chicago. they ran very well in chicago running seventh. had to pit late in that race. so to have two finishes in a row outside ofthe top ten, top 12 would put these guys in a hole going to dover. remember, we saw matt kenseth at the veryend. but he doesn't want to be in this position. if something doesn't change in this race theywill go to dover being in a very good position.

>> right now no one is pushing matt kenseth. he has a second and a half lead over martintruex jr. he won here in the fall of 2013. and then also the last two races at loudon, new hampshire he's been celebrating in victory lane. matt kenseth out in front. if carl wins today, i'm gonna do a backflip. maybe when you're dreaming. guys, i'm telling you, i can do a backflip.

lounge can they stay out there and do theyget a caution before that moment. moment in the chase for log. >> he was only basically two third of thestraightaway from going a lap down on the racetrack. what that means is if they don't get a cautionand joey logano needs to pit he won't lose a lap. he won't lose two laps. then if a caution come out, timely after thatbefore those new tires can help him recover that gamble to get his lap back is going tobe a huge blow for the 22.

i like to gamble. teen position they are in now they can't sitback and wait to get their lap back but they need that caution to couldn't. i don't think they can make it to 225. you saw it, you heard it. that's a big stretch for this 22 car. i expect them more like around 220. >> not just log but austin dillon is two carsbehind, one car behind log. in exact same spot.

designee has to get off the concern betterand he's yet been able to do that. >> not teammates but there's an alliance betweenjoe gibbs racing and furniture row racing which martin truex, jr. is driving for. >> this is a tale of two stories. guaranteed to be in the round of 12. he won last week. matt kenseth trying to get himself a guarantee. the best defense is a great offense.

can he keep matt kenseth out of victory lane. >> that's what martin truex, jr. is trying to do. life is sweet a round of 16. log did in a round of 12 a year ago. and little bit of contact with the wall hereby the 42. just brushes the wall. not a lot of damage. >> there's the gap between one and two.

kenseth still holding on the advantage. and how bad he needs to win this race. he doesn't need to win this race because alreadyin the round of 12. but he wants to win this race. this is home town track. he wants this to be a victory. being from this area if you win your hometown race it means so much. log talked about running this race. he said it was his daytona 500 win.

when you're from an area it means that muchmore to win that race. >> martin said that much as we see the battlebetween chase elliott and kevin harvick. what truex said he's been coming to this racetracksince he was a young teenager watching his dad race here. his dad has won her. his brother has won here. >> big battle here between 4 and 24. >> i'm looking at the 4 car. he can clear 24 car with 46 to go.

racing on the outside of the 48. >> title battle. saw danica try to pick 48 off. danica is out of the chase. this racetrack is as hard as anything else. she needs race hard and be aggressive. that's what she's doing. she's trying to pinch the drivers off, keepingthem from getting in the lane they want to be.

there's a risk to do that. >> alex bowman in the 88 on the inside of19 of carl edwards. edwards trying to get by newman now. >> let's talk about strategy as we're nowunder 43 to go. brought to you by smithfield food. what's the strategy with these drivers runningup front? >> we talked about it all day long, the caution. we just had one. are they done?

i don't think they are. wilt come to restarts. here you have your car dialed in for the shortrun. >> that's what you're learning right now bigbattle for the lead. >> here comes martin truex jr. looking to the inside once again. does he have enough? about four feet separated him that time frombeing close enough that matt kenseth would have to adjust his line.

is getting more aggressive. had a good run on matt kenseth. matt kenseth racing to move intoround theof 12, did not give any room whatsoever to truex in the corner. cut down on him hard to protect that spot. >> look at the points on the left side of the screen. 20 would be in guaranteed. some other cars having good runs. jamie mcmurray, 22, over that cut line.

>> 4 of kevin harvick, 14 points above thecut line which definitely is what they need going into the final race at dover of thisround of 16. >> you can see right there, truex is quickerthan kenseth in the middle of the corner but can't get his car to turn on corner kpipts. watch right here. right here, every lap he makes a run but thenkenseth able to accelerate and get back on the straightaway and stay even through that. as long as he stays even truex can't makethat move. >> with 40 to go how patient does truex stay.

he is happy he has a win in the round of 12. does he not want to make an enemy of mattkenseth or does he have enough confidence he would put a bumper to the 20. look at the damage p.m. >> how many times have we seen matt kensethlead a race and somebody behind him pushing late in the race. think about him and log last year. he and kyle larson at dover. imagine as many times as they had to protectthis position to get a win.

>> nascar is take look at 95. likes some tire rubber. had some damage. nascar is make sure that's not potentiallygoing to blow a tire and cause a wreck so they told the team make sure to put a plantogether if it looks as though there's a lot of tire rub you have to do something aboutthat. >> truex, kenseth battling for the lead asthey two have been battling for thread. they have been running away from the field. kevin harvick is 2.5 seconds back.

>> kevin harvick 2.5 seconds back. before they battled that was chase elliott. the last couple of laps chase elliott hasgained a half on the leaders. >> marty>> as we patch the battle for thread the left side of your screen, kyle busch on the bottom. caution right now, rick. >> we showed you that 95 with all the damagefinally did rub the left rear tire and caution is on the racetrack. >> that was kenseth and martin truex, jr.

that went just underneath the 95. the 95 will try to make its way to pit road. take a look at the initial contact betweenclint bowyer and michael mcdowell. you see the 15 and 95 get-together. pretty heavy damage on that left rear. right here tire is flat. he's trying his best to get to pit road. the issue here is that's right in the racinggroove and he goes back up the racetrack. >> and the free pass is going to go the 22of joey logano.

so they have battled back and will be on thelead lap. >> it's going be next to impossible in 36laps to go from the free pass to the race winner, points. he's back in the lead lap. gives them the opportunity to gain those valuablepoints. he'll need a cycle. needs another caution. he has to start at the tail end. who will pit and who will stay out?

>> quite a few. now as the 18 chose to dom pit road as doesdanica patrick, the 19, carl edwards. and the 11 of denny hamlin. >> we go with batman or broncos. it will be four tires. they made an adjustment to help with the handselingof the 18. >> caution was coming out we were talkingabout kurt busch. water tremg was the concern. 317.

you see tires going on. they removed. four tires for that race team. trying to take a chance to get a win in roundnumber one. >> looked like the right side tires were smokingon the 41 of kurt busch as he was existing pit road. so something we might want to take a lookat as we go nascar nonstop before the restart comes out back here at loudon, new hampshire. crowd: surprise!

ahhhhlife flavors the bolder. i'm not retired yet, you knuckleheads. champion! >> quite a few pit road penalties. take a look for the 19 team. >> that's a violation. 19 cars pitting decide to pit late has histires on this orange box. so here at new hampshire the rule nascar tellingus the rule sue have to have all four tires below that orange box.

there are some racetracks, martinsville isone, bristol is one they say left side but here all four tires. >> gets ready for the restart. matt kenseth, martin truex jr. carl edwardsdoesn't know where he's supposed to line up. getting ready to fall back. he falls back. they come in to the restart zone. kenseth on the outside, martin truex, jr. on the inside, green flag back in the air.

with all those penalties not a lot of timeto tell you who did what. kyle busch back there eight, ninth, tenththey put on fresh tires. they will work their way up through traffic. >> that was close, 78 got really loose underneaththe 20. great job of slowing down and not get intothe side of the 20. truex -->> matt kenseth just in front of martin truex here he goes again. to the inside as we go down the back stretchand 78 complete the pass? that's just how close it is.

as they enter turn three. once again the 78, a lower line through turnsthree and four. now as the inside line turn one trying takethe lead away. >> he'll do it again. it worked. matt kenseth, left side on that white line, martin truex, jr. got all four of his tires. martin is not done battling. >> under 30 laps to go.

trying to take the lead away again. now at the racetrack he goes. back out of turn number four. >> what a delicate balance for matt kenseth. he needs a good solid run to get point andmove forward. if he wins that moves him forward. how aggressive does he be. he don't push that issue, push the 78 downthe racetrack. that's all good until the 78 says that's enoughif he ever makes that decision.

>> look at the points on the left we talkabout the 19 having that penalty and now the 19 is below the cut line trying recover fromthat pit road violence. >> how about four drivers, joey logano, harvick,41 of kurt busch and 48 of jimmie johnson all 12 points above the line. battle continues for the lead. kenseth now with a little over a car lengthseparating he and martin truex jr. brad keselowski, jamie mcmurray on the right side of your screen. keselowski getting by jamie mcmurray but jamiemcmurray falls back to ninth. >> what a great job keselowski and his teamhas done today.

almost a lap down and now battle for a solidtop ten finish. nice job battling back by this team. >> few cars did come to pit road includingthe 18 of kyle busch. last time by kyle busch really fast lap almost29 seconds flat compared to everybody else running around 29.5, 29.5. >> kyle busch is up to fifth position andflying that last lap was so fast. it will come down to how quickly he can getby chase elliott and the 4 of kevin harvick. how much does he have to abuse his equipment? >> we've seen how hard it is to pass.

these guys are not going to give him the spot. every spot, a position one point. they won't make it easy for the 18. matt kenseth continues to lead. he needs to get as much distance from 18 aspossible. >> he closes in on the 24. chase elliott has to understand kyle willnot have patience like other guys. be careful. >> seems like he's giving up but that's smartracing.

knees he's in fifth, he has the points heneeds out of this weekend. >> there was a little bit of debate betweenkyle busch and his crew chief on what to do. we heard him talking. we saw him. they took four tires. the crew chief saying you got to trust meon this one, it will pay off later. it looks like it's paying off. he keeps reminding his driver big picture. take what you can get now but keep the bigpicture in mind.

>> big picture is the championship that kneeshow to win because he did it a year ago. a guy fighting for his first championship, martin truex, jr. running second right now. this is what they had to say on the radio. >> cars behind you, 43. >> that was spotter coverage presented byliberty mutual insurance helping drivers worry i'm not sure any driver could worry less asthings are escalating with 23 laps to go. >> 78 he was up there battling with the 20. he's fallen back a little bit.

this is a race with 23 to go. these guys are trying to be aggressive atthe same time. you can't kill your tires. that's a longer run. you have to be patient. brad keselowski also using those new tiresto get by the 41 of kurt busch. >> kurt busch was on pit road earlier andwe saw a little bit of smoke coming out of the 41. looked like it was coming out of the headers.

>> guys that was the tip for the 41 we weretalking about shift for the battle for the keselowski bunch coming down battling a loosecar the entire time. paul wolf said let's take four tires and seewhat happens. since then also on that last caution log gotthe free pass. he's back on the lead lap. he's passing cars as well. nice rally for team penske. smile an hour faster for kyle busch. if he continues to clip those off only 21laps to go, he's looking pretty strong.

i'm guessing you would say there may be anothercaution before the end of this race. >> no question the best carton racetrack isthe 18. the question is, is there enough time? not only does he have to catch matt kensethbut he has to dispose the 4 and 78. >> final green stretch is coming on 11 lapsor less. it's quite possible we'll see another caution. amazing how these things repeat itself. >> kevin harvick same thing. these drivers know, look he has fresh tires.

he's coming by with 19 to go. i can't afford to make contact have a flattire. that's only helping kyle busch get up thefield. >> trying to make sure they have a good race. the problem is matt kenseth. matt kenseth needs them to hold up kyle busch. kyle busch is a good two to three tenths ofa lap back. >> we keep talking about the big picture butthe team of 18 moments ago before he got around the 4 do i go for it or just ride.

who has the advantage now? kyle busch with fresher tires? >> another thing that just happened the 3car of austin dillon he's going to get the free pass. so that's going to put him back in the leadlap. he earned himself a lead lap. that's a tough one. i think 18 was in good shape. 18 was going to have time to get by theseleaders and now come down a restart and who

has the best restart, what happens side-by-side. trevor bayne was turned around backwards. felt a tire went down. something happened to the race car. no contact with another driver but hard impact. >> he was running 25th a lap down. and trying to drive it back to pit road. and so now somebody mentioned something aboutcautions coming late at this racetrack. >> my favorite traffic.

>> kevin what's your opinion about the previousrestart motivate you at the end? >> we talk about that stuff all the time. and, you know, i think for me it was justa smooth restart. i don't know what happened. just timed it right. worked out good when we got to turn one. >> what about the turn around last weekendhaving a bad day and coming to victory lane today. >> that was a game of inches.

we got a lap down. had a good car. just wound up not where we need to be at theend of the day. all in all we wound up where we were. >> up don't have to go to dover and win thistime. what does that feel like>> nice. one of our main goals was not to stretch ourselvesout so bad. i think the performance of the car and thingswe're doing are good enough to be competitive and not make mistakes.

>> how is the retailer rate now? >> i'm excited. i was content with where we were. once you get up front you have to take a hans. >> hit all his marks. his guys were encouraging him home and kevinharvick is through to the round of 12. >> she's going to give him a little hug andcongratulate, his wife in there in victory lane as well as they will celebrate and again100th start with stewart-haas racing. you look at the career of kevin harvick.

23 wins. very impressive. things have escalated quickly for kevin harvickonce he moved over to stewart-haas racing. a win in his first-ever full season with them. a championship. in the first-ever full season. now 11th win in his 100th start. >> you said never been eliminated in thischase format. this year three key say that again.

he's moved himself on to the round of 12. two years this, the third in this format hemade the championship for miami. he checked round of 16 off the list. this guy hooked up together they immediatelystarted to run at the front. amazing how quickly it came together. after everything happened today the big loserin my eyes is jamie mcmurray. he ran well all day long. he's down in 13th. got caught in a bad pit strategy.

couldn't get tires on. lost a lot of slots. >> moments ago, we caught up with matt kenseth. >> the winning streak at new hampshire isover for matt kenseth but a very strong run nonetheless. take me through those final restarts. >> we were pretty good. guys did a good job. just didn't get that last jump in.

got loose. i fwurnt right rear off trying to hold himoff. the last restart was my fault. they thought i slowed down. i let kevin lay back. i should have known better, i should havewent really late in the zone and wait until he got up to my nose. he anticipated just right. >> still pretty solid opening two races herein this first-round.

how do you feel about things going to doverand elimination race. >> you always want to win. we thought we had a top two or three car today. we didn't win. they put me in position to do that. i feel bad about that. we ran good last week. ran decent today. go to dover and try to race.

>> matt kenseth, second in new hampshire. >> a third place finish for kyle busch butkyle certainly looked like the fastest car there towards the end of the race. if not for that final caution how did youlike getting to victory lane. >> there were a couple of cautions that hurtus. overall, the camry was strong. the guys did a good job. in the spring we struggled on those late restarts. there again we restarted on the bottom.

but we were able to hold our position. that was good. just wish we were able to have a restart onthe top. that might have bean little difference andget up there and restart with those guys. overall a good day. this is two solid days, two top tens. gets us in the amount of numbers and pointwe need. hopefully get through the next round in dover. not do anything crazy.

go out there and have a nice smooth race. thank everybody from toyota, interstate batteries, skitles and keep fighting. >> big picture. you're talking numbers, 33-point cushion. how do you like that picture? >> i don't like it very much at all but betterthan a one-point cushion. there's pluses and minuses in this business. anything can happen. we saw with the 48 last year they had issuesat dover.

we had issues before. we've been knocked out in years prior. you got to go and fight it out and again tryto keep track of that big picture. >> thanks, kyle. >>> now everyone will be looking forward tothe elimination race at dover. harvick gets the win here. time now for the nascar merck post-race showwith krista voda and kyle petty. >> thank you. celebration continue in victory lane.

that's where we're located. if we have learned anything never count outthe 4 of kevin harvick. make sure you listen to what the guys upstairssay. they told you those cautions were coming andtwo guys standing next to me, dj and kyle petty know what they were talk about. they said watch out for these restarts. it comes down to that. it matters how you manage and how you canperform. matt kenseth did a great job whenever he wasin charge of those restarts.

i did wonder through that and matt confirmedwhat i was thinking. if he run too hard and run his tires off prettymuch and that will affect you on a restart and not able to hold it. give kevin harvick a lot of credit. being patient and making his move when itcounted. >> but when the restarts happened it playedinto kevin's hand. he kept gaining position got himself in position. 78 had a bad restart. kevin made a good restart and then at theend that may have been the best restart he's

had in a long, long time to put himself evenwith the 20 car of matt kenseth. >> we'll ask kevin harvick and so much morein a few minutes. he's continuing to celebrate with his family. you saw his son adding his father's name tothe board. let's hear from some more chasers. we caught up with the pole sitter. >> looked like a solid smooth day for carledwards until the penalty there at the end. what happened. you thought you were underneath the commitmentline.

>> i was. i was. don't believe your lying eyes. i just pulled down at the last minute. i thought i made it. at the end we ended up sixth. we could have been top four or top three. we don't lose too much. proud of my guys for not quitting.

calm at that point. battle in the back of the back. our camry was up front. biggest thing i learned a bunch. i learn more. we talked before race, i feel better comingback here. we go to dover. we can win there. i'm happy.

>> how were you able to gain those spots inthe last couple of restarts? larson was -- i came up and hit him one timeand i thought it was over and he was nice enough to step back out and unhook me. i heard three wide from jason. we wanted to put comcast in victory lane. but have to do it at kansas. >> he finished sixth, carl edwards. >>> it was a battle much of the day for jimmiejohnson trying to keep up with the racetrack. what was it like for you today?

>> first half of the race went pretty smoothlyand second half we were off on one run, lost track position. then the sequence on pitting or not pitting. at the end we came up for tires. got 16th up to eighth. proud of this team. i knew the start of the race was going toosmooth and at the end it was crazy. >> look at the big picture. eighth in the standings.

18 point in the gad. does that make you feel comfortable goingdover >> no chance. last year at dover we had a small parts failurethat took us out. you got to race the race and we got to goto dover which is one of our best tracks. >> jimmie johnson been nothing short thandominant over the course of his career. >> thank you, mike. let's take a look at this chase grid. martin truex, jr., kevin harvick two driverswho know they are moving on.

it looks like someone like jimmie johnsonwho we heard from in safe territory but we saw it last year and obviously is not farfrom his mind that the fact his best track is what took him out of the next round. so coming into this the danger zone wherewe saw kyle larson, his teammate jamie mcmurray along with austin dillon, tony stewart, chrisbuescher on the outside looking in. >> i'm with jimmie. he felt he was safe going in last year andhad that one part failure and boom he's watching the rest of the chase unfold before him. i think these guys in the top maybe threeor four maybe they are pretty safe.

other than that you got to be nervous. if you don't have a win you got to be nervous. you saw matt kenseth put together two solidraces. we saw a couple of other guys. but anything can happen at dover and we'veseen it so many times. >> we talk about it year after year. how much that racetrack how difficult it is. nowhere to hide. you have to take.

if something should happen around you, infront of you, you have very little to go to dodge that. guys that look pretty safe if something shouldhappen early on in that race then they get taken out then all of a sudden no it's notso safe. they get halfway through the race and carsfallout they can get in that spot. tough, tough race to go and play defense andknow that it may only take a certain finish to get there but that's the hardest thingto do. >> we saw a couple of spins here today. single spot car at dover, collect anotherseven or eight.

that's way it is. it's not your fault. >> there's a reason they call at any timemonster mile. one of those guys who looks key be in relativelysafe territory, in third, brad keselowski, he talked with marty. >> brad keselowski now sitting here doingmath whether he's locked in at dover. >> i would say yes. >> i know do you. you're a driver.

>> locked in. >> i want to get to the fact if i told youmid-race you would finish fourth would you believe me? >> yeah. i believe my team. they worked hard on my ford all day long. great execution on pit road. great execution with pit calls. got the right lane on restart.

which is so important on these restarts butalso just staying out of trouble. not as fast as we want to be. we kept our head down and got through. >> dover was a track you guys have been hitor miss on lately. your math is correct. feel better -- i'll ask smart guys. >> fair enough. >> obviously you do feel better going intonext week. >> i do.

feels good to go dover and sleep easy knowingyou have a part failure or get caught up in a wreck, things that are not your fault. but that's good. we still got some more work to do. >> nice fourth place effort for the 2 carthis afternoon. >> yes it was. this race just ended a few minutes ago. kevin harvick continuing to celebrate withhis team. you heard from six chase drivers.

we have more to come. we'll be with you until 6:00. "nascar america" continuing in loudon whenvictory lane follows after that. you have plenty of nascar coverage until 7:00. kevin harvick will join us coming up. coming up. >>> welcome back to "nascar america" post-raceshow here in loudon, new hampshire the only thing we have more of in victory lane thanconfidence is confetti. the party is continue, the race winner kevinharvick will join us in just a bit.

let's take a look first though at our backon the road moment. i want to go ahead and cover the entire weekendbecause the chase is on in all three of nascar's top series. it began here at loudon in the truck series. william byron picking up where he left off. he moves on to the next round. so does elliott sadler. this race was in kentucky. sadler wins.

he's excited because he too is moving on. bj was in kentucky for that race. what did you say about three hours of sleeptime? and kevin harvick the winner here in loudon, new hampshire. kevin harvick led a ton of laps in this racelast year. did not get the win. he redeems himself. adding his name to the board. let's look at the chase grid.

next week dover elimination race. if you are one of those drivers in the lastfour, 13, 14, 15th or 16th next week your championship hopes are done. we caught up with another chaser. >> a top ten finish for kyle larson. kyle, better than you have been the last twooutings here, big picture wise how successful was today was? >> i would be happy anywhere from eight toten. we finished 10th.

i'll go to dover where i run decent at. had to fight hard. we were good in the beginning. then the balance kind of stayed the same. everyone else got better. and we lost some track position the. i wasn't very good on short runs actuallywhen i got into traffic. early in the race and wherever i started inthe top six to eight top three or four rows i could go pretty good but once i got backpast 10th it was just hard to, you know, get

runs and stuff. so that kind of hurt us. we were able to take two tires and hang onand try hold as many people off as i could. i was fighting and trying not to wreck buttrying race hard too. >> when we look at the race you came in acouple of points below the cut line. now you're five ahead. what kind of comfort level does that giveyou going to dover? >> not much. better to be five ahead than five behind.

we have to race fast and race smart next week. >> thank you, kyle. >> chris buescher knew it would not be easyto advance to the second round of this chase and now you fine yourself in a 30-point hole. how do you look at it? >> it's 30 points in dover that's pretty mucha win situation. so we're going to go there. one of my favorite racetracks. i like the place a lot.

i'm glad this one is over with. we'll keep working on. dover is a naecht place and had some wildfinishes before. we'll go there with the intent to do somethingcrazy. >> what were you dealing with today in newhampshire? >> tight center and trying to get that fordoff, the usual. just couldn't quite get it today. >> 30th that's where chris buescher finished. he finds himself in a must win situation indover.

>>> austin dillon who finished 16th. with everything you fought through any victorythere? >> it's a victory because i'm proud of theseguys. we didn't have the weekend we wanted by nomeans coming here. it was looking really bleak at times. but i just stayed and hoped that there wouldbe some cautions and jesus took care of us gave us an opportunity to go to dover to makethis thing. only five points out of the chase. we have a solid day.

got some quality cars back at the shop we'lltake there and drive my heart out like we did today to come home truthfully ten spotsbetter. >> going to dover what's your confidence levelwith that track? >> got to be hot. got to do whatever it takes make it. next race is the most important race. go after it hard and see what we can do. >> let's talk about these bubble drivers andkyle, austin dillon was saying everything right.

talked with confidence. he's relying on some of these other guys andnames to have trouble and chris buescher is relying on a win. >> honestly if you're fourth, fifth back,a w is what you're going for. a win obviously puts you in. chris buescher, and blatantly a hope and apromise. that's how simple it is. tony same way. you got to count on guys in front of you havingtrouble.

five points is a lot of points. being five back like kyle larson said i ratherbe five up than five down. five points is a lot of points in this system. where we see these guys in the chase run soclose together all day long you can't get a gain on someone but can lose a lot of pointson someone. lot of these guys have another sleepless weekahead of them. >> even if austin dillon has one of his bestraces and has a top five finish that may not be enough. you can do that and your competitor, somebodyyou're trying to pass that's in that 12th

spot can finish behind you or inside thattop ten. tough place. tough race. nervous time for a lot of these. but someone like austin dillon who has gotthe right idea. got to go there with a lot of confidence andget everything that we can. >> can you go there and have the best runof your life but i think we lose sight sometimes these 16 guys are racing these 16 guys. it's all about that.

there's a reason that they are the 16 guysis because they are in the chase. that's the sharp end of the stick. >> there you see kevin harvick as he leavesvictory lane. not so fast. he's heading our way. you'll hear from him next. we aren't looking for just any college students. we're looking for ones ready to take classesafter day jobs, after kids go to bed, before the sun comes up.

on a campus, on a kitchen table, on a countertop, or all of the above. and who want professors who'll work with themin all those places. because these students aren't afraid to workhard, and deserve a university that isn't either. if you're this kind of student you're ourkind of different. devry university different. on purpose. >>> welcome back to "nascar america" post-raceshow brought to you by advance auto parts. let's get you back on the road.

the road to victory lane belongs to kevinharvick and son who does the honors of advancing his dad's name into the round of 12. wasn't quite straight at first. no problem. still counts. we have today's race winner kevin harvickwith us. congratulations. much different performance. last year you led before running out of fuel.

having to go into a must-win for dover. now you get enjoy more what happens next week. >> you know you're going to face some obstaclesas you get in this race. last year that was our obstacle. we led really well and then win the race. today didn't run a lot of laps but won today. we had a good solid day. kept us in contention. >> last week let's go back, last week youfinished 20th.

we knew we would find you at victory laneat some point in time. that last restart take us through that lastrestart and the move you made. we haven't seen anybody go into turn threelike did you. >> i was surprised that stuck as well as itdid. i was able to get a good lane in there goinginto turn one and able to get back in the throttle off the concern. our car fired off real good as i was ableto give it a throttle and roll through the center of the corner. load the car up and going through turn threei could keep my right side tires above the

hash mark. i stayed in the preferred lane. once we got out front the car drove good. >> now that you won this weekend for the roundof 12 this third year of this chase format you've never been eliminated in a round. obviously you like this. are you and your race team from top to bottombetter prepared this year than the previous two years where you won and finished second. >> this is a mental game.

this can mess with your mind so easily youhave one little thing go wrong. you can start thinking about things you don'tneed to be thinking about. this team has been through so much and throughso many different situations they know this is a grind. this is about first lap of practice, preparingduring the week, getting to the racetrack, qualifying, not making mistakes. usually the one who headaches the least amountof mistakes who winds up in those final four cars. then you have to win the race.

we definitely been through a lot and doneit a lot of different ways obviously and hopefully doesn't matter how it looks on paper you haveto get to homestead. >> i let the drivers ask all the questions. you said something about the mental game. do you feel you're as strong or stronger thanthe other 15 whether it's your experience, personality? >> i think experience not just for me it'sgood for me but good for everybody on the team. it's good for everybody jumping over to walland the crew chief and engineers and everybody

at the shop to know look we've done that, don't have to worry. the performance has been good for three years. we got to keep doing that got us to the pointand prepare. we've been through the mental side of thisthing. it gets harder as you go on because there'sless and less spots. but it's hard on your body and mind as yougo through these ten weeks. >> i'll stay on that for one opinion. fortunate enough to go to bakersfield whereyou had great time. >> go back any time.

>> and learned who kevin harvick was, wherehe was from and what racing mean opinion you made statements earlier before the chase startedyou have to be single minded, focused, selfish. from a driver's standpoint we talked aboutthe mental attitude of the team. how important is that for a driver to be selfishand take and tuned championship -- i've said if you're a young driver listen to kevin harvick. >> there's a deal. last year we got wound up and got ourselvesin a hole. it's a balance. you have to be aggressive and selfish butalso thoofb somewhat smart the way you go

about things. it's a fine line of being aggressive and takingeverything you can get and having that, you know, that one track mind ever doing thingsyou need do four race team but can't tear the car up and can't make mistakes. there's a list of things can you go through. so i just love how mentally tough our raceteam and our organization is and it starts at the very top as you go down from the verytop. tony has been through championships. just so many racers that have won championshipsand loved racing and that's what makes stewart-haas

what is it. >> you speak of your organization, stewart-haas. you made your 100th start. you got a victory. from the first race with rodney childressyou've been competitive. you both have a mindset. does him being a former driver help in anyway with your communication with him? >> it's what we think about and we think similarlywith the detail of the car. not about the trick of the week.

it's about maximizing everything you can getout of that car. that's what our team does well whether it'sfrom the aero side or the detail side from the engineering side. every last detail from every person in theshop and i love the way they step up this time of the year to come out and be preparedfor the chase. this is all about details and not making mistakes. >> how excited was your son now>> we're going on two weeks now with no naps. he's delirious. he'll be in his pajamas shortly heading tothe house.

>> so is kyle. >> definitely. >> that show you talked about, called racingroots and debuts on october 2nd. >> it's incredible. >> great job. >> congratulations. now two of last year's championship four haveadvanced to round of 12. kevin harvick joins martin truex, jr. knowingtheir championship hopes are still alive. still more from here in loudon, new hampshirestill to come.

new hampshire still to come.e 7 from sprint. >>> "nascar america" cigarette brought toyou by advanced auto parts. >>> a perfect afternoon for racing from newhampshire. only 300 laps, it goes very quick. race number two of the chase is under way. >> this is a very flat racetrack. long straight. >> carl edwards out front. >> that's aggressive racing.

we'll see that all day long. >> the pressure continues to ramp. >> green flag pit stop. has been setting a blistering pace. >> three wide. >> matt kenseth has second half lead. >> last 100 laps very stressful. about to go wicked fast. >> kevin harvick takes the lead.

>> bring it home, buddy. >> harvick will win at the magic mile. >> thank you guys. >>> that's the only one more excited thankevin harvick is his son. >> got a new ride too. getting ready to drive out of victory lanehere in new hampshire. let's here from more chasers there in thegarage. the hauler starting to pull out. log's car.

we talked to him. >> 11th place finish for joey logano. joey it wasn't the car you wanted for thisrace. how did this team fight back to come backwith a decent finish. >> fought hard. we made some adjustments. we got something that was racy and then youwave around and that didn't work. eventually we got the opportunity to get backon the lead lap and keep fighting. took advantage of all the wrestling aroundand beating and banging.

team showed a never quit attitude. we're resilient. got that going for us. >> joey, we know this is a tough track onwhich to pass anyway. in the chase is it becoming that much harderto fight for every position and every point. >> the intensity is picking up every race. it will until we get to homestead. be interesting to see how it keeps playingout. second and 11th puts us in a decent spot tobe in good shape for dover, got to go out

there and get a solid top ten run. we'll be able to move on. overall like i said i'm proud of what theteam got. they are getting more out of the car thanhats there and we have to find more when we get to next year. >> thank you, joey. >> looked like it was going be a solid dayfor chase elliott and then last couple of restarts what happened? >> i had to play defense and that's a toughplace to be.

we started on the bottom on the ones thatmattered. frustrating part it. i don't know what you do about that otherthan get ready to go to dover. >> 16-point cushion going dover. how do you feel about that? >> i don't have much of a say really. i think, you know, for us we got to treatdover and like another race i think this first-round is part of it and you definitely want to tryto get through for sure but i think dover, i'm looking forward.

we had a strong spring. >> this was a racetrack that was a concernfour guys coming into the chase. encouraged by that how you guys performedthis afternoon >> definitely encouraged by it and by thecar we had and the way we were able to run upfront and run inside the top five. i don't think we were much -- we had anythingfrom that or the 78. we had a couple of opportune and i couldn'tdo a whole lot with them. the group is working hard. we made a lot of improvements.

hopefully we can hit on some things at theright times and i feel we're head in the right >> chase elliott winds up 13th at the endof the race. >>> kyle go ahead and expand what you heardfrom chase. >> honest lui i thought this was the racethat would be his achilles heel. we knew he would be strong in hick. dover i thought he would be pretty good. but this was a race i didn't think he wouldsurvive. he came up here and had a solid top five car. at the end of the race he had to play defense.

while other drivers were playing offense heplayed defense. still a good solid run. his 15, 16 points is that a good cushion. like he said i don't have an opinion on it. i got to go up there and put together anothersolid run and i'll be in the chase. that's the way he goes about it. he's been incredibly impressive in these firsttwo races >> he has been. solid races.

that's all he needs is one more solid raceand then figure out how to get from the round of 12 to round of eight. joey logano has eight more points than heshould have but that's championship caliber driver getting the job done at the end ofthe race. he should hed sixth at chicago. so that's at it points the good. very valuable at the end of 400 miles nextsunday at dover. >> i go to joey like i said about chase. chase is playing defense.

joey was playing offense. offense ten of chicago, offense here. he picked up positions. he's at least eight points to the good onwhere he should have between way he ran and it's because joey got up on the wheel andforced that car to be there. >> penske cars, they better find speed. they can get through this round but it's goingto get tougher. >> joey logano his teammate brad keselowskithrew see the wink car in victory lane. told you there's a lot of confetti.

we'll spin things forward dover next.s forwarddover nextresh air all up in your face. cricket's got you covered like a blanket ona pig. >>> it wouldn't be a pocht race show if kyledidn't that have lobster. >> nice kitty, kitty. >> it is national lobster day. >> if you want lobster delivered to your housecall me 1-800 -- never mind. >> victory lap is coming up. let's spin forward to dover. this is a cut race, elimination race for fourdrivers it's all over in dover.

dale, who is in trouble. >> i think there's three drivers. austin dillon, the 34 of chris buescher andtony stewart probably. jamie mcmurray does have a chance to workhis way in. >> i believe jamie does too. we saw jamie go there last year and it waslike kissing his sister pep tied and got knocked i don't see that happening to jamie this year. he has a solid enough run. >> is it like occasion crustacean.

>> yes. >> the lobster is a traditional -- that'swhat the winner gets here in new hampshire they get a lobster. >> i get to pet it. >> you'll hear from the chase drivers. don't worry>>> a perfect afternoon for racing. from new hampshire. only 300 laps. it goes very quick.

>> that's just aggressive racing. we're going to sew that all day long. haos will be on pit road. >> martin truex junior has been setting apace. >> matt kenkenseth, he has a lead. >> about to go wicked fast. >> that's just how close it is. >> bring it home. >> yeah!

welcome in to nascar victory lap. the toyotas dominant in new hampshire. at the end of the day, it was kevin harvickin victory lane with the chevy. >> i don't think anyone going into the racewithin the sport would say nascar, on fans out there didn't expect the joe gibbs toyotasto be the class of the field. we saw that from the start. carl edwards winning the pole. truex junior and him fighting. they commented on how the cars were so equal.

that's why it was tough to pass. this was just another glaring example howcompetitive the joe gibbs racing toyotas are. >> it has been a strong suit of theirs. any place you go to that's flat over the lastcouple of years seems like they show up and not only do you see one or two of the carsup there but it's usually all four or five running within the top five. indianapolis, martinsville, the package thatthey have going on right now really suits itself to the flat racetracks. there were times people who doubt matt kensethwhether he could get the job done at martinsville

or louden, because back when he was runningat roush, he didn't have those numbers. when you put a driver in the right equipment, all those things he can do and go out there and almost win three in a row at a track. >> we have seen the evidence of that all seasonlong. you must be at least feeling pretty good rightnow about where you are with the toyota alliance. >> all you have do is look at numbers. >> four of the five led laps. got a bonus point for leading laps. martin truex junior let the most laps.

this is incredible to see a manufacturer leadover 93% of the laps in the nascar sprint cup series. these five cars are absolutely the top ofthe game. it's really -- as you said, there's certaintracks that seem to suit them so well. this flat track in new hampshire is that. >> one of the things mentioned is they usethe term open book. everybody is sharing information with everyoneelse. does that play a factor that everybody canget on the same page and do well when everyone has all the facts?

>> that's if you are going out of the samebook. and they are but a lot of times in the past, some of the teams i have been to, as you go down the line, crew chiefs have a differentway of measuring things. one thing i have seen about joe gibbs is theyhave been transparent about what they're doing from one car to the next. they know exactly when they are going to plugthe setup in how to put each piece in to make it work. >> kevin harvick in victory lane. let's show you how it impacted the race standings.

kevin harvick joining martin truex juniorin the round of 12. brad keselowski best on points after finishingfourth. he is 35 points to the good. kyle larson clinging to the 12th place. let's go through some of our top moments fromthe race now. before these late race restarts really decidedthings, it was matt kenseth and martin truex junior who battled for the lead. as you look at the chase grid, before we getto that -- that's coming in a second. what stands out to you about the grid, whatyou are looking at and the impact that some
