the grid set by the rule book. owners' points. front row having brad keselowski and martintruex jr. brad keselowski, only driver with top fives in both chase races. >> behind in row 2 is kyle busch. a two-time winner at dover next to matt kenseth. >> in row three, joey logano next to kevinharvick. >> row 4 has denny hamlin and jimmie johnson. >> behind them is chase elliott who finishedthird in may alongside edwards.

>> back in row 7, two drivers that are fivepoints smack to the cut-off, that's jamie mcmurray and austin dillon. >> and those two drivers are trying to worktheir way, tony stewart and chrisescher. >> kasey kahne and jeff gordon filling infor dale earnhardt jr. >> and in row 10, ryan newman and ryan blaney. welcome in. brad keselowski. jeff? >> hey, brad, it's jeff up in the booth.

they worked really hard to give us a fastford to unload. i thought we were way better this time aroundthan we were in the last race, so i'm pretty encouraged and feel good about it. >> how does your team approach this race? what does that mean to you going into today'srace? >> it's good feeling. you can't take anything for granted in thissport. unless you're locked in, you ee got to makesure you get the most of it each and every day.

something could jump up and bite you. it seems to be good. that will all take care of itself. >> good luck to you and your team. have fun today. >> thanks, jeff. have a good one up in the booth. >> and we're going ride along with a few differentdrivers other than bran keselowski. one of those being the 88 of jeff gordon withthe nationwide camera.

he'll start 18. austin dillon with the aaa onboard camerastarts 14th. jamie mcmurray has the credit one onboardcamera and will start in row 7 in the 13th position. kevin harvick and the number 4 starts in row3 in the sixth spot. kyle busch has the sprint onboard camera andwill start in row 2 in the third position. and we just heard from him. starting up front on the pole with the fordincar camera is brad keselowski. not only will we ride along with a few differentcars on the racetrack, but also the aerial

coverage provided by smithfield foods. i want to take a closer look at dover speedway. 400 laps, 400 miles, pit road speed. they will have to slow all the way down to35 miles an hour when they get to that line right there. a and the fuel window, 85 to 90 laps today, steve. >> yeah. that fuel window will definitely be tested. it seems here at monster mile as chaotic asthe race is, there will be long stretches

where they'll try to straech their sunocofuel. >> let's take a look at this week's driveto the championship. two advancing to the round of 1 the, martintruex and kevin harvick. even brad keselowski said you can't counton anything at the monster mile because it can come up and grab you. >> we've seen so much. wrecks getting onto pit road. this track has a lot of challenges. one thing going on today, the track has morerubber on it right now than at any point during

the whole weekend they had practice. we'll see who can get in early and stay inthe race. >> let's listen in on communications fromthe 14 team a few minutes ago. >> we'll take whatever it gives us at theend. i'll tell you one thing, this race is notgoing to define the season this team's had. >> they've had a great one. they were able to get a win earlier this yearwhich put them into the chase. in tony stewart's final sprint cup seriesseason. two by two they come down the back straightand into turns three and four as we're awaiting

the green flag. brad keselowski has chosen the inside line. martin truex jr. on the outside line. those in the chase all have yellow splirts, yellow spoilers and yellow banners across the windshield as they come out of turn number4. the elimination race is under way from themonster mile. >> brad keselowski is off to a good start, rick. we have all 16 chasers starting right up inthe front eight rows.

>> just a few hours ago, that outside lineis going to be ready to go. you see kevin harvick on the outside lane. i think you can trust it. i think you can go up there and expect there'sgoing to be a lot of gristle. >> sorting out positions early in this run. denny hamlin on the inside of the 48 of jimmiejohnson. jimmie johnson, a ten-time winner at dover. again, this is the race where he was eliminateda year ago from chase contention. >> that elimination, rick, last year, peopleover 15, 16, 18 points, they had a little

bit of kamness about them thinking they weregood. but after seeing jimmie johnson's mechanicalissue, the nerves in the garage seem to be turned up even more this year. >> brad keselowski now has a mirror full ofmartin truex jr. the 78 team still successful early on in thisyear. kept that consistent throughout the year andthen won the first race of the chase in chicagoland and now battling for the lead with brad keselowski. early laps of this race. >> just no surprise that all of a sudden you'reexecuting with a lot of pace early in the

race. everywhere they go, every kind of racetrack, they have speed. it won't surprise me one bit to see them goby. i think he's a little bit quicker. put the pressure on right now. >> and it might happen sooner than later ashe looks to the inside and martin truex jr. to the point at dover. >> and brad, you saw him put his hand outthe window on lap 6. is not going to go in there side by side witha car that's a little faster than him.

he cannot afford that. clean. that will be enough to advance around number12. >> you would think they would take it easy. a lot of people in the media gave him grieffor how hard he ran his teammate. he said, hey, listen, i've only one six racesin my careen. if i get a chance to win the race, i'm goingto go for it. nebraska time he gets a chance to win a raceand run up front, he's certainly going to do it.

kevin harvick with a nice pass. >> freaky pass number four. kevin harvick makes a pass on the 20, mattkenseth, he moves up a spot. mike? >> as we document the race for the championship, rick, we've got to remember, this is more than just a driver and a crew chief. the team member shares a part in this. that's especially true for the front tirechanger. kinkaid on mcmurray's team, he's one of fivemembers of his family who works in this sport.

he has two brothers and his father. his mother used to work in an administrativerole for jeff gordon. the caveat, none of thecaids have won. >> eight points out of the transfer spot. the top 12 advance at the end of this race. >> you know, show what the one is up against. eight points out but running into 13th position. remember last year ran fourthnd a it wasn'tenough. this is the type of racing we're going tosee all day long to try to move forward.

you're going have to be up in the first, second, third position. >> as a driver, what are you feeling out herenow, jeff. you've gone ten laps. what kind of information are you collectingthat you can tell your crew chief. >> as i ride along with jamie mcmurray, whatyou hear with throttle and see, all of those things are very important. listen to how he's going in throttle and watchthe wheel input. >> battle for second taking place. here comes kyle busch looking to the insideof brad keselowski.

he moves up. second goes to kyle busch. >> kyle is one of those teams that on fridaythey worked exclusively on racing. they never went and made a qualifying run, never practiced qualifying. of course, qualifying got rained out. with all the teams on the racetrack today, that 18 car, they have more laps on the racetrack than anyone else. >> you heard marty mention for martin truexjr., if he has an opportunity to win a race, he's going to take advantage of it becausehe only has six career wins in the sprint

cup series. three of those have come this year. although this is the sixth straight race thathas been led by martin truex jr., and that's the longest ever streak for martin truex jr. as far as leading races as jimmie mcmurraycontinues to close the gap between him and jamie mcmurray. >> he's looking for him to make a mistake, find a weak point. right now we don't see him in the bottom ofthe track. this is the opportunity right here.

jamie is going to keep pushing that, try toget alongside him. as he turns, he watches him. he's thinking, can i roll the middle, carryenough. the difficulty is once you get there, youhave to pinch your car off, turn it more than the guy on the outside. it makes it hard. so the one is a little quicker than the 41,but because the outside groove is good, it's going to be a difficult pass. he's alongside of him and now i think he'lldrive away from kurt busch.

>> and right behind the 41 now is the 3 ofaustin dillon. austin dillon, one of those drivers outsidethe top 12 trying to get in to advance his championship hopes. out front once again at dover.today we'regonna be comparing the roll formed steel bed of the chevy silverado to the aluminum bedof this competitor's truck. awesome. yeah! first, let's check out the aluminum bed ofthis truck. wooooow!!

>>> welcome back. take a look at how this happened? >> he took a look outside. you see how he was able to get turned throttleand get past the 78. we talked about it earlier. this outside race, they come in. only at lap 25 and they're already way upthe racetrack. >> and, jeff, that's the key for the 18. they asked him to move up the lane, and hedid it.

he was able to take off. gets the lead and goes back to the bottomof the racetrack. how did you spend your day? kyle busch spent the day at the white housewith president obama. he said, i thought it was so cool that heasked what i do before the race and also about my son. very cool for the team as they were recognizedby the white house for their championship. kyle busch right now in the lead for the championshipat dover. we're just 96 miles away from the white househere at dover international speedway.

48 of jimmie johnson. this was team communications just momentsago. >> 41's lap time is good. >> the 41 car? >> yes. >> or the 18. i don't have time right now. >> 0-negative. keep doing what we're doing for now.

>> okay. >> that was spotter coverage presented byliberty mutual insurance, helping drivers worry less. >> that's basically a conversation betweenearl and jimmie johnson's spotter chad knaus. probably on a different channel, couldn'thear that. he wanted to suggest it. chad knaus wanted to know where they're running. he wants to stay on the bottom. he's like stay in the black and try to conservethe front right tire.

>> i think that eat important. it's a little harder on tires. >> a lot of rubber put down on the racetrack. most wins all-time at dover presented by sprintgoes to jimmie johnson. ten wins already. he could be adding to that later today andthroughout his career. sprint's reliability is better. visit sprint.com/network today. currently jimmie johnson in that 48 runningin the seventh spot.

just behind a pretty good battle here forposition between kenseth and logano and then also jamie mcmurray and also austin dillon. dillon able to get by the one of mcmurray. austin dillon who's behind jamie mcmurrayand was behind him in the points. because of that pass, that puts austin dillonone point in front of jamie mcmurray and they continue to fight out of the 13th and 14thpositions. >> we've seen it over and over and over. we've talked about it. last year, it wasn't enough to allow him tomove along.

we saw him last year. >> closing in on the competition. we'll take a quick break and be back for firstpit stops from dover.fast. i love all-day breakfast. but you don't love that you can't get allyour favoritesall day. i don't love that. but now you're gonna love thatyou can getmore all day. like mcgriddles. i love mcgriddles...

so you'll have to find somethingelse to notlove. hey buddy! like exploding fist bumps. pggggggghew! or forgetting what you're aboutto do. wait...what was i about to do? or when people who say youlook like... james lipton. oh man...it's uncanny.

get more choices you love, nowwith all daybreakfast. my brother and i have always been rivals. we would dream about racing each other, inmonaco. we were born brothers. competition made us friends. wish bold in the 2017 camry. toyota. let's go places. can you feel it?

the taste of coca-cola. crowd: surprise! life flavors the bolder. ahhhhlife flavors the bolder. i'm not retired yet, you knuckleheads. champion! makes. a year ago he had to win this race and did. last week kevin harvick won. doesn't need to have a good finish.

and now has a tire blow, and he's alreadybehind the wall and in the garage. we're getting ready for pit stops to takeplace as the field is heading to pit row. kelli? >> you see matt kenseth coming down to pitrow. it looks like it's going to be a spot forthem, kenny. >> for this stop, oranges. it's going to be a corner stop. got better the longer they ran, dave. >> bottom right, keselowski, his teammatesthird.

keselowski was saying his car was tight inthe middle and loose. as for the 22 of logano, he said the entryis good to the one-third mark and then i have trouble turning it. four tires. sunoco fuel for both tires. >> race-off pit row brought to you by geico. (sloshing)(twist cap sound) unleash a refreshing citrus kick. do the dew.

sfx: door rattlessfx: glass shatters she'll call nine one one. average response time? eleven minutes. too late. she keeps a firearm in this safe for protection. but hillary clinton could take away her rightto self defense. and with supreme court justices, hillary can. don't let hillary leave you protected withnothing but a phone. the nra institute for legislative action isresponsible for the content of this advertising.

>>> this is why wins are so important. kevin harvick will advance. kyle larson has an issue. he doesn't have a win. he's fighting to get into the top 12. mike. >> he's on pit row trying to determine what'scausing the loss of power. thaw were about to change the battery. he said, i've got power back.

it may have been a loose plug. obviously a costly period of time early inthis race for kyle larson. >> he's currently one lap down, rick. so if he can get out in front of the leadersand stay in front of them, he'll only be one lap down. >> he doesn't want to speed on pit road. he gets off. hopefully he didn't speed. green flag back in the air.

kyle busch, martin truex, brad keselowskigoing up high, loses second. the 6 of trevor bayne was too fast on pitroad. came in 24th and served that penalty. >> i can promise you there, kyle busch, withthe situation, if he can get up there and put a second lap on him, he'll do everythingin his power to do that. >> that sounltded like that 42 lost poweras mike reported, rick, and then they found power when they started messing with the battery. basically the battery sits in a box and theyhave two terminals to make it quicker to change. if it's not secure sometimes it can wigglearound and become unconnected.

it will still be in the race car but unconnectedfrom the power supply. >> and so now kyle larson fighting to stayin front of kyle busch as kyle busch tries to stay in front of martin truex jr. mattkenseth, brad less cow ski, and joey logano in the top five. >> you're right. they know this is an opportunity to put the42 down a second lap. that will be their second goal. >> 42 has been fast all year long. you know, he's won a race.

since that race he's been a really, reallygood competitor, try to track him down and get all you can. >> the 42 is going to have to come back topit road. they had too many men over the wall when theywere working on that issue. >> that's compounding errors, compoundingmistakes. the battery is the biggest issue, but thenwhen the 42 came to pit road, obviously they had too many guys over pit wall. you said it. when he comes out, he's going to lose at leasta second lap, maybe a third.

it's going to be a steep steep hill to tryto climb back. >> it will be a pass-through penalty, right? he'll have to pass down pit road. he doesn't have to stop but at least passthrough. >> unfortunate for the 42. 24 point behind the cut-off line for kylelarson currently riding 39th and he doesn't go into his pit staal that time or onto pitroad. they show the black flag. they'll show him the black flag with the whitecross next time.

>> they give you a few laps. you take full advantage of the laps becauseyou might get a caution. smart job for those guys who stay out as iflong as they can. look how slow the speed is. 35 miles an hour here. you're crawling down pit road. >> to have instantly lost the second lap,he stopped. kyle busch. >> kyle now is driving in turn three.

it's in the middle of three and four. kyle larson has got to be careful. he's going to end up three laps down righthere. >> three laps down for a chase contender, hoping not to be eliminated today. but now he has a huge uphill battle in frontof him. >> now the 42 needs to under where they'reat in the situation, basically start being very aggressive, trying to take waves by. you're three laps down. the only way this 42 has a chab of transferringat the moment unless the other cars have problems

is to get toward the lead lap. >> if you're going to have a problem, youwant it early. you now have 350 laps to recover from thisproblem. so their day is not done, but they're goingto have to catch some caution. they're going to have to gamble a bit andhave some things go their way if they're going to move into the round of 12. >> with more on what's moving, let's go tokevin harvick. >> a lot going on. kevin harvick race dream.

you can see all the crew members underneaththe car working. there's five crew members underneath includingcompetition director trying to lend a hand as well, trying to weld a repair piece inthere to make sure kevin harvick can get back out. what do they need now? they're locked into the next realm. they're going to stick it and get kevin harvickback out. >> currently kevin harr vicks scoring 40th. two chasers who have problems early at dover, one of them with that win guarantees an advancement

and he gets into the round of 12. >> and that's important information. he's only two point bess low the cut linenow. so as other people have issues, it's veryimportant for these teams, crew chiefs to inform them of the situation. you have to wonder with kevin harvick andhis team if they're not doing a little bit of testing and trying to figure out how farstuff can move, what can happen to have a problem that early in the race. they have to be doing something a little different.

maybe a little bit of testing going on today. >> let's take a look at the nascar heat evolutionand the rear end and what those four teams are dealing with right now. as you heard, the 4 team broke a track bar. there's the track bar. sounds like they broke the track bar mount. you see this. that gets welded to the chassis. the left side connects to the suspension.

it seems like the left side is still instaktbut the right side broke that's welded to the chassis. that's going to be a difficult repair. >> when that breaks, now there's no controlfor the rear axle inside of the body. the rear alks moves left and right. >> a few issues for terrell chasers. kyle busch out front. modern rhythmic music score windows changeon the beat of the music beautiful craftsmanship. countless styles.

citizen soldier 400 at dover speedway. >> jamie mcmurray came into the event belowthe cut-off line trying to overcome a five-point deficit. he knew he needed to have a vd good performancetoday, however, they may have some concerns. . feels like a wheel, a grinding. >> that report came in about ten laps ago. they're monitoring it to make sure it doesn'tget worse. this team obviously paying very close attentionto it, rick. >> a tough position for jamie mcmurray.

a week ago they spent most of the race inthe top ten but finished up in the 19th which puts him in the position of being on the cutline, currently in the 11th spot. >> he got caught on the wrong side of this. ended up making race the last tires. now the biggest concern is what is this problem? what is going on? is it going get worse? that would be unnerving to me, steve. >> dave.

>> austin dillon can take advantage of jamiemcmurray. you see he's just below the cut line fourlines out. his car very difficult to handle. it won't turn in the corners and it's fourof them and they're hard to get through when you don't have that turn in your car. >> that's a really good shot. you can see what austin dillon is having to. do you can see his wheel input. he drives almost with his leg, you can seewhen he accelerates, when he decelerates.

there's a lot going on with this racetrack. you have to attack these four entries andfall down into this hole driving into turn one, try to roll in as quickly as you can,go back to the throttle. but a lot of times you have to breelgt offthe throttle. very difficult racetrack. >> we're at the monster mile. chewing up some competitors today. the 42, kyle busch, his battery came loose. he lost power.

came to pit road to repair. under that repair, he had a penalty. he comes to pit road. he has no power. they stop to look. you're allowed six guys over the wall, sevento service the driver. no one serviced the driver. you see this gentleman on the pate wall. he seems something.

he tells them to jack up. when he steps over, that makes seven guys. there's still a person you don't see on theright side of the race car. the battery was an unfortunate situation. seven guys over pit wall, it's a silly penalty. they happen. they happen often. very easy to overcome to three laps down. going to need some very unique circumstancesto be able to obtain these laps.

>> a mental mistake by the team and that putskyle larson three laps down. the two teammates racing for position, fightingfor the fifth spot. right now brad keselowski has the fifth position. joey logano trying to take it away from him. let's take a look at today's rams guts andglory especially when we're talking about the 42 team. >> yeah, rick. it started with a disjointed weekend. there's been rain in the area, short practices.

teams are going to have to set up. some hit it. some haven't. a situational awareness. you see the 42 is having trouble. these other chasers have to underthe situationthey're put in. >> that's right. understand what you need from this race. competition, whether they're having a goodday or bad day can affect what your strategy

has to be, how aggressive you can be and alsohow aggressive the crew chief needs to be. you have to think that joey logano and histeam are feeling pretty good. they ran so poorly early in practice thisweekend. although they didn't get a lot of practice, they struggle. no speed at all. to be able to sit here, that has to give thema little bit of confidence. the two teams have not gone well. >> challenging brad keselowski for the fifthspot. he'll take the fifth away from teammate bradkeselowski.

kelli. >> ahead of that group, the crew chief tellingus he feels really good about the direction of the race team. he said the cars they brought to the lasttwo races, chicago and new hampshire, he felt like some of the best race cars they everhad at those tracks but they definitely want the win today. momentum is important, rick. momentum is very, very big. they had incredible momentum and then badfinished at chicagoland.

the very next race at loudon. that puts them in a position. as you mentioned, situational awareness. it's not working out for them yet. yet a lot of racing in front of them. 324 laps still to go. they see them get by. >> i've been watching the 48 of jimmie johnson. consistently one of the top three cars onthe racetrack as far as speed goes.

you see them overtake the 20th. remember, this is a team i think have beenlooking forward to get back to this racetrack. a year ago the mechanical failure eliminated. this chase format has not suited him yet. i think they would approve that incorrect. they wanted to advance, continue to advance. if you can get jimmie johnson into the roundof eight, three very, very good racetracks, he has to be a favorite to make it to thefinal four. >> steve, if you look at the next five racetracks, jimmie johnson has 30 career wins.

they want to get through. he told me earlier this week he said mid-summeri would have told you we had enough to get through the next round, but i honestly didnot think we could make the championship four. but with the speed we brought with the 48car and hendrick motorsports overall in the last couple of weeks, i think we can. as i mentioned very strong. no doubt jimmie johnson is going to be a championshipthreat if they can get through at dover where they've won ten times, by the way. >> kyle busch out in front.

let's save something for the end of the race. i think he's baking up. a lot of traffic in the race and martin truexjr. in another toyota trying to catch him forthe lead as well. >> they had a split. all the way around the track. the team of kyle busch taking advantage ofthe high line that's come in. >> remember the 78 already winning, with awin already advancing to the round of 12. good job to push kyle busch harder than hewants to be pushed.

push kyle busch. remember, you want to race going to the roundof 12. if you can find a way to get him out who'snot as good, that's what you want. >> these two were in the championship fourlast year. last year it was kyle busch who won at miami. he was able to go on and be the 2015 championof the sprint cup series. one of the favorite ones entering the racethis year as he's been strong on all different tracks it's been so fun. kyle busch all the way up, getting close tothe wall.

he had to do that because of the way his carwas handling. he said it helped the back of the car buthurt the front of the car. he said when i moved up, there was all kindsof grip. you have to go where your car likes it. it handles better, not necessarily where thegrip is necessarily. right where your car is good. moving behind these two cars. that blue number 48, he's coming. >> a ten-time winner -- actually johnson haswon more at dover than 26 of the other 39

this is a product of very limited practicetime, not really getting an understanding of where you are in your cambers. you can see your cameras here. it's very hard on the inside edge of the tireand the tire will fail. limited practice. in my opinion limited practice really affectingwhat the teams can do about their car. >> the safety barrier doing its job again. you see it compressing as the car hits it,taking a little bit of the hit away as the cars are making their way onto pit road.

>> once again, it fired off a little betterthat time. it was definitely more manageable to drive, although it got a little bit tight. four tires and fuel for matt kenseth. >> kyle busch's car was a little bit free. when he went down, it didn't really help it. it needed a turn as well. you're going see an air pressure touch forthat. and jimmie johnson, the pressure was reallygood, very fast at the end of the line. no change for the 48.

>> for joey logano, it was on the edge ofloose exit. made an air pressure adjustment, for tiresand sunoco fuel. >> race off pit road brought to you by geico. jimmie johnson gains a spot, the 78 losesa spot. people know me as dale earnhardt jr., racecardriver. but there's more to me than that. at my office, they call me boss man. i scout the talent, close the deals, do itall with a firm handshake. he's going to need timing or shorter runsif he's going to stay out and get wave-arounds. that's gonl to be his only opportunity toget these laps. >> mcdonald's serving breakfast all day withthe all day pit strategy. 48 has been charging to the front. hemric motorsports has 38 chase wins, mostall-time. sprint network. save 50% on most verizon, at&t, or mobil t.visit today. >> we heard jimmie johnson earlier in therace. earlier he was tight.

he's able to really gain on carl edward butthen he just can't get the car turned. he can't get it to turn. carl edwards has given up a little bit ofspeed. right there he gains but then as they starton the exit, there's nowhere for austin dillon to go. >> he's driving like a veteran in front ofhim. he knows the 3 is better than him throughthe corner. that's why he makes sure he exits right here, right along the apron of the racetrack. does not get out on bottom.

>> behind the three team is the 41 of curtbub, marty. >> right now in the 14th position, right wherehe needs to be. that's what he told me early this week. he said, listen, we're not coming here tobe aggressive this weekend. all we need is the top ten. we just want to advance. that's going to be a round of strength. he told tony gipson, the changes we just made, not working so far. earlier on he was way too loose on entry,on exit.

this last run, way too tight. they're trying to get the balance on the 41. still right where they want to be. >> the problem, rick, is i understand whatthe 41 is saying. only 13 points ahead of the cut line. you know, there are 26 cars within a lap ofthe leader. there are over 30 cars with two laps of aleader. with 282 to go, there's no guarantees. kyle busch could have a solid race and havean issue on the restart and miss the chase.

>> also with this 41 car, we just have tolook at the speed. they were really fast in the spring and inthe summer. ran really well, but finished fifth in newhampshire. >> the car just in front of the 41 of kurtbusch as the 88 of jeff gordon subbing for dale earnhardt jr. kelli? >> there's a sight to see. it's dale earnhardt jr. sitting above the pit box of the 88. i asked the crew what it was like to havedale back at the track.

[ indiscernible ]>> jeff, it would seem with two corners, there would only be one apex. help us understand why there's two apexesat dover. >> apex would be the center where the carneeds to turn. at this racetrack the corners are so longand so wide, there are two apexes. you enter the corner, drive in it.

i don't think you turn straight but you don'tturn as hard as you normally would. right here it's the beginning of the apex. that's the first turn. then you go straight and the second mark iswhere you turn the car again. so in both case yos view to have the car poibledin the direction you need to point it in and get enough of a grip. >> let's right along. he gets to the apron right about there. you see he kind of comes up.

you're constantly turning but then you haveto turn again as you approach the interstate. it's very, very similar to that. >> i will tell kyle busch that him and 40other cars do not like how you turn at the second apex. that's the challenge. if you can get into the corner, the questionis can you turn back down the hill. >> a lot of guys talk about that. he drives in, up the banking, and downher. >> if you notice, he's not giving up.

he says, hey, it is what it is. he's searching. we saw him on the top of the racetrack. now he's at the very bomb. that's what the racetrack allows you to do. it changes around. in making that adjustment he's found speed. he's started to break even with the 478. >> so that's a lot of talk about the guyswho are running up in the first three positions.

how about the guy running back in 12th, dave? >> he's been working on the guy. austin dillon has been told by the spotter, keep working that exit because that's where you're almost meeting the 19 car of carl edwards. most of the day it's been a tight race carfor austin dillon. what about the pressure of the chase. you see on the left, he's still the firstman out, only three points behind. when i talked to his crew chief, he said,i went to bed at 11:30. i was wide awake at 1:30 and could never goback to sleep.

so much pressure for the crew chief, so muchon his mind. >> there's so much for everyone involved. the pressure ramps up. this is an elimination race. he could leave this chase race and not havethat same chance. >> most of these guys in the ford grew upwanting to be in this race. it is an opportunity of a lifetime. they've worked so hard to do it. when it's right in front of you, it's allyou can think about.

you can't get away from it. >> mike. >> rick, perhaps the cinderella story of thisyear is the 34 car of kurt buscher, going the victory at pocono and making their wayand qualifying for the chase. they had hoped to play spoil never the advancebeyond the round of 16. although they came in today, he's been thehole. bob thought they might be able to use brakesand get strategy to get to the front. unfortunately as the race has played out sofar, they've not found the speed. their chance of getting to victory lane andpulling off a hail mary, it may not happen.

maybe, maybe, just like in pocono, somethingmay happen that allows them to play a strategy move. >> they utilized the weather situation andcame onto pit rode a little bit earlier. when they stayed out, they ended up gettinglead and then all of a sudden the ball rolled at poconos. >> a body slam move. now he's got to run him down at the straightawayand let him know his displeasure. not the kind of racetrack you want to be rubbingfenders. >> what i was saying, there's a lot of experience.

they had a lot of experience with carl edwards. they made the chase race together. what an impressive year. didn't get a ride on roush. showdown up each and every work. he did the best he could and run that race. you can see it here. he took it. i wonder what kevin harvick is thinking behindhim three or four laps down.

listen, guys, i don't want any part of this. i've already had a bad day. i don't need it to be worse. again, kevin harvick, his view. he will advance to the round of 12. >> he says, i don't want to be part of this. he's probably laughing. while it's funny, only because he had to havea win. >> if you ever wanted to know the value ofa win, wait to talk to kevin harvick after

and currently it's austin dillon that hasthe advantage. >> and, rick, those two have been swappingthat transfer spot throughout the course of this race and right now austin dillon hasthe advantage. as for jamie mcmurray, he had radioed earlierin the race that he had a vibration. here's the earliest thing he had to say aboutit. >> some type of weird drive thing, vibration, maybe the drive shaft. but that's not it. >> so with only 159 laps complete, still lotsof racing remaining and lots of concern as it relates to that vie brarks dave.

>> i talked about it. he said it was running niechlts then theycame here this weekend a little bit different setup-wise but that their teammates used whatthey had in the spring and that was working for them. so saturday they swapped back over to that. they felt it was going to be the right jiptfor today. lately they made changes to the car and he'sfound it going the three. nk that's as much of a concern. he's moved up the racetrack.

right now he's passing on the bottom. he's moved up the racetrack and when he did,he found a way around edwards. he has one of the top three or four fastestcars on the racetrack right now. >> rick, we talk about anyone can be eliminatedwith a mistake, but they about how emotionally draining this must be for austin dillon andjamie mcmillan. 3 1/2, four. >> lose a couple spots could be a differencefrom your year. >> jamie mcmurray felt those very emotionas year ago when he made it into the chase, got to this elimination race and actuallywas tied in points.

he had the tiebreaker as far as being ableto advance and so he was eliminated after the race last year. once again he's in a position. it's a single point right now that he's behindthe three team. >> let's think about chip ganassi racing. we talk about it all week how well he runshere. they have an issue. they're 16 points below. the other hope for chip ganassi training.

>> we'll see if he can make some ground at the bottom. >> that was nicely done, not entering thebottom. he does the same thing down here. can he stay even the 24? >> what's so difficult, you're running thetop. you're not sure. you don't have a reference anymore. the last time you were on the bottom was along time ago.

it's really important to understand why it'sso important not to have mechanical issues and what winning does. if you win, it moves you along. >> the 42 of kyle larson is fast enough. he's as fast as the 2 or the 24. you see the 1 on the left of your screen justoff the pace. we just need to get some timely cautions ifthe 42 hopes to get back on the lead left. >> right now all ten drivers in the top tenare chase drivers. jeff gordon.

we saw it earlier. that were prepared to repair it. >> they were having a long discussion withhendrick motorsports, scott maxim trying to diagnose what might be going on with thatrace car. jamie said they were down one cylinder andthought they might be going down another. they're looking at the electrical system tosee if there's anything there that might be able to be corrected that might prevent themfrom falling back. >> they had a gun. they were checking the cylinders?

so basically the one run -- that's why thehedger teams were there. they checked the temperatures of the cylinder. whichever cylinder is not firing should becooler. >> kyle busch said they went way too far onthe last adjustment and made it extremely tough for him. not being happy. they're going to see them undo the last adjustmentwhich is a west adjustment. for jimmie johnson he's done better. the track bar adjustment was helping but ineed a little bit more.

in.>> even though tony stewart lost some positions, we saw them all right in a row at the beginningof the last run. he said the balance is pretty good. ck free. that's what he'd like to fix.rick. >> thanks, guys. you see tony stewart. onthe outside of the top 12. he is 13 points back from the three of austin dillon. austindillon currently in the 12th position as far as champion hopes continuing after this race. >> you've got jimmie johnson not too far behindhim. he's behind him. jimmie and tony are on the same straightaway. he's going to haveto get going. it was back on 184. so they have gone almost 80 laps.>> this is a 400-lap race. you have to understand

you're racing the monster mile. a very difficultmonster racetrack. you see the big save behind jimmie johnson. if you go back to the spring, you see how quickly things can change. jimmie johnson had a big change. wouldn't come outof second gear. jumbled up the field. how many cars get collected. so 139 to go today.there's still a lot of opportunity. these drivers are all doing exactly what they need, which is to race the racetrack. understand where their competitors are and try to remainpatient as the race goes by. >> very familiar with quite a few chasersas far as drivers that were involved in that wreck. jamie mcmurray, his afternoon has ended.denny hamlin, kyle busch, joey logano, martin truex jr., all know how quickly things canchange at the monster mile.

>> you mentioned coming up on green flag pitstop. i know we parked it. this race no different. added pit lines for this race this weekend.pit road speed is very, very difficult. it's only 35 miles an hour. with all of the chasecontenders running inside the top eight, we've seen other issues. a speeding penalty cancost a team two laps here. >> it could easily be disastrous as was almostthis for the 16. >> he's running hard trying to save him onedown. almirola pushing him. no harm, no foul. didn't hit anything.>> yeah. any time you're on an oval and you have to turn the wheel to the right, you knowthere's an issue with your car. >> you mentioned speeding on pit road. remember, jimmie johnson made 118 laps in chicago, running

second, pitted on the green and got caughtfor speeding. those are the mistakes teams can't make. you saw it in new hampshire. heworked on his pit road speed, tried to make sure he was on pit road speed. but with thelimited practice this weekend, there really wasn't an opportunity to work on getting onpit road. they're going to have to be conservative. >> i was going to say it's not pit road speed.look at where it's located. even more than that, it's easy to hit the end of pit road.the way the commitment box is so far up the racetrack, you can be under the pit box butbe right of the pit wall and make a last-minute decision. we've seen cars have accidents comingoff pit road. >> a lot of times the racetrack was dry butpit road was a little bit damp so the teams

weren't able to get on pit road as aggressivelyas they were. they try to put two chasers a lap down right here.>> they're going to do it to kufrt busch of the 41. he clears him. it will put curt alap down. looking forward to the 14 of tony stewart also trying to put the three-timechampion a lap down. tony stewart not wants to give the line to the 48 as he prefers tostay in front of him, hoping for a potential caution for pit stops to start before he getsput a lap down. >> we talked about how difficult this pitinjury is. we'll look back. this is the xfinity race. he makes contact with barrier at theend of pit road. he was underneath the orange cone. he was pitted legally to pit road butdidn't have enough room to miss the pit wall.

that's how easy you can have it.>> at most racetracks you use that pit box, that orange box on the end of pitch road.that's where you use your reference point. you see it here. that wall is way inside ofit. things happen quickly. you forget that that wall is there and the position that it'sin. >> it's a speed discrepancy.>> that's right. >> we see those at bristol. you see thoseat martinsville. i know dover's only a mile. this is a very fast racetrack. kyle runningthird. kyle busch has led the most laps. he continues to add to that number while he'sout front. martin truex jr., 81. brad keselowski led the first five laps of the race.>> the pace he set, he's only 12 cars in it.

he's now the last car on the lead last.>> sorry, rick. was going to say it wouldn't seem like 15, 16, 17 would be the place tobe. but somehow the fords are trying to push. roush phenly failed to put a car into thechase this year. that disappoints this company. they want to get better. they want to improve.it seems like biffle -- i won't say a great day but a better company over the recent runs.>> we heard the report from marty about jimmie johnson an his team. it took him a while. they weren't runningwell, diagnosing problems was difficult, trying to figure out how to fix it was even moredifficult. the roush fenway team has been going through that. they've been going throughit much longer. once you lose that speed,

it is so hard to find. once again the fuelwindow, just over 85 laps. last time they were on pit road. and already at lap 275 someare heading to pit road including the 24 of chase elliott. casey mears is already downthere. we go to dave. >> rick, he was running very well. since hecooled down he's been happy with the race car. don't expect much adjustment. he's watchingthe weather, wondering if it will warm back up. kelly.>> matt kenseth running inside the topfire, his crew chief saying that would be a success, but they need to tighten it up. four tires and fuel, dave.>> the 3 car had a new crew last week. i asked how it went. he said they saved us last week, saved us three spots and that's how we got

a pass. he'll get four tires, sunoco fueland a wedge adjustment, marty. >> out of control loose. you're going to seehim make some adjustments trying to tighten up this 18 car. air pressure is going to bethe call. martin truex jr. said it's too free on entry and too tight as well. leader jimmie johnson rolling in. they'restill very happy with this race car. they would love to take it the early part. they'retrying to get around with the gas can and they're going to make a little bit of an adjustment.we'll see if it's done in time. >> 1.5 was the difference in the gap. martintruex jr. we'll see after the pit stops how that cycles through as brad keselowski ison pit road. dave?

>> you saw that car a little bit tight. hereceived adjustments for that. after brad keselowski, he said i'm an two in every category.so a little bit of everything but not all that bad. that's where we've been so far thisafternoon. for brad, it will be an air pressure adjustment for him and sunoco fuel.>> once again a pit road mix stake for the 48 team. they were over the wall too soon.he'll have to come to pit road to serve the penalty.>> kurt busch went down. the car now two free. they're tight all day long. to free on therun. left side air pressure adjustment to tighten it up.>> championship-caliber team cannot continue to make these mistakes and since that they'regoing to win a championship.

>> that's why we have been critical of thisteam. >> so the pit crew cannot jump over. they cannot touch the ground in their pit staaluntil the 48 car is within three pit stalls of their staal.>> one pit staal. >> one staal away for the driver-- for the crew members to touch the concrete. so this is something that used to be a judgmentcall. but now with these new camera systems that nascar's been using for the last coupleof years, it's no longer an adjustment call. that's what they were talking about. nascarwill send them a video. they will. here's your crew member's foot touching the ground.>> he accelerates to get back onto the track,

but once again, the damage done to the 48.was leading this race. >> you can see right here. there's a crewmember already in the pit box and jimmie johnson is clearly more than a staal away. he's takinga second stop. listen, we're talking about a matter of inches. this is like when theywere trying to stay on the lead lap. >> there was an opening there.>> there's still a line. it has nothing to do with the opening. you still have the sameamount of distance as every other race team. you'll have a mark and that's what nascarwill use to judge it. >> two races. both of those races, they hadpenalties on pit road. >> the prepit box or prepit stalls, you can'tdrive through three pit staals to get into

your staal, but once again, one staal outis as far as the car can be when anyone's foot touches the ground in the pit stall, and that's where he got caught on. >> running in 16th position. went from thelead of the race to being a lap down and 16. >> take another look. and this is the nascarreplay. >> so this is the shot that nascar looks at.you see right here, the red line. that is one staal away. you see it in the middle ofthe 18 box. that's because the 48 has an opening behind it. clearly when the 48 was not -- beforehe broke that red line, there was already a crew member touching the concrete. i knowthat seems silly, but that's the rule. there is black and white. that's what happens.there's no judgment call. it's that simple.

back out in front. they hope to get to victorylane as we go nascar, nonstop. crowd: (collective cheering) joey, i don'tknow how you pulled that off man. what's next? can you feel it? can you feel it?oh, coca-cola! you're gonna show this whole world.you're gonna shine! can you feel it? can you feel it? oh, coca-cola! oh, coca-cola!>>> welcome back. ricky stenhouse jr. still has yet to come to pit road. they're runningthird. barack keselowski, chase elliott in the top five. the big story has to be jimmiejohnson and another mistake on pit road has relegated them all the way back to 14.>> rick, i want to revisit it one more time.

with 105 laps to go, it's a major story line.if you see jimmie johnson, if you look at the crew member right here, he's clearly touchingthe pit box. you can't be there. there's a little white dash that the crew members canuse. that is there for safety. they don't want the crew members in the pit box beforethe car gets there. say the car spun out. we see it all the time. if they kneel andwait they would be defenseless to a spinning race car.>> look at the 43 coming out. now the 43 is blocking the crew of the pit crew for the48, so that made it a little more difficult for the jack man to understand when he couldgo over the wall. he didn't do anything wrong but visually it's much more difficult to decidewhen to go because of where the 43 is.

>> it's tough. it's timing. you can't leaveextra time. you have to be out there ready to do your job. but it's for everyone. onething, what nascar done is taken officiating to a very consistent level. that same scrutinyis placed on every team. the race leader all the way back. i think that's the key. if you'regong to call it that close, you have to be able to do it equally and i think that's whatthis camera system has done for nascar. >> surprisingly, it's the tenth infractionthis year for the 48 team, the second time for the men over the wall too soon in thedaytona 500 earlier this year. the first time. this is what they had to say on the radio.>> all right. everything's fine. we've got a two-lap cushion it looks like on transfer.>> that goes back to what we said at the beginning

of the show. situal awareness. you look atthe mistakes in four of the last five races. don't let the emotion of these mistakes multiply.we saw they had a penalty they didn't need. stay calm. understands the situation. thegoal is too advance. >> jimmie johnson has now worked himself upto 12th place. he has one car in front of him, kasey kahne. if jimmie johnson runs himdown, he can be the first one in position when the caution comes out. so it's not overyet. the day is not over, but they've certainly dug themselves a hole.>> currently five toyotas in the top ten as we take a look at the toyota driver update.out front. martin truex jr., kyle busch, matt kenseth, carl edwards, ten. all five driverslooking to advance to the round of 12.

all well above the cut line. he's 25 pointsahead of 13. at under 100 laps to go at dover, and the weather has been inconsistent. itwas overcast pretty much the first half. how difficult is it. >>.>> i would be able to answer if i knew because this track always through a curb ball to me.>> so good over the entirety of the run. clean racetrack. rubbered up. it's probably oneof the biggest compromised racetracks as far as runs.>> martin truex jr. out front has a second lead over kyle busch running second.t ge?yeah, i do. you guys are working on some pretty big stuff over there, right? like a new languagefor crazy-big, world-changing machines. well, not me specifically. i work on the industrialside. so i build the world-changing machines.

as well as the fiery moments in his three-timecup championship career. he's a fighter and will continue to fightright now on the outside looking in. for this the final chance at a championship for the14 and tony stewart who currently is 12 points behind the cut-off line. and he is racingagainst austin dillon who austin dillon currently running seven, tony stewart a lap down in13. i want to get a few updates and we start with marty snider.>> well, rick, around the 16, he's been kind to martin truex jr. won in chicagoland. ledthe most laps in new hampshire last week and leading at his hometown racetrack at doverright now. he had to get 150 tickets for his friends and family. every time he comes here,he has to get the tickets but well worth it.

he said the crack is really rubbered in. they'recorporate teammates. martin truex jr. has a lot of ground to make up. right now probablyin second, dave. >> brad keselowski started in first. the onlyother time at dover was in 2014 where they led by one lap and finished second. today, coming in at a better position than anyone in the chase except for the race winners.a similar performance would be more than enough to vance and he's doing it today. the 24 ofchase elliott behind him. chase has been having a pretty good run this afternoon. just tryingto get through traffic, and that was the last thing they talked about. eddie said, sorry, man, they let the troops through. he said, that's all right. we'll be fine. kelli?>> a healthy points margin. when i talked

to his crew chief he said, well, matt is oneof the best drivers at being a headsy driver. he knows when to push and when to take whatthe day gives you. sometimes that competitiveness has to comein and remind each other of the big picture. right now he's running top five through thenext round. dave? >> did i mention the drivers and spottersare getting angry about it? he said they're getting out of the way, then he was reminded.tlooe big picture. big picture. >> austin dillon, his big picture is he'sdone well on pit road on the driver's side. they pit way down on turn one because theywanted a constant feed for him all the way through and guys not pulling out in frontof him. it's been good today.

>> jeff gordon is a five-time winner at dover.when asked what a success would be today, he said a win. he said to go to pit lane withjeff gordon would be pretty cool but he said it's feeling like there's thousands of poundsof air in the tires. they made an adjustment at pit road to help him out. dave?>> they did a complete reset. to basics. someone else's basics. that's why you had teammatesand he went in his teammate's direction. rick? >> look who's behind denny hamlin, about toput denny hamlin a lap down. martin truex jr. martin truex jr. about to lap the ninthplaced car in denny hamlin. he does, and now he'll set his sights on jeff gordon who'srunning agent. he did lap the 19 of carl edwards moments ago. when he did, take a look at howloose carl edwards did.

>> he's getting around. 98 trieaccelerateoff the corner. loses the bottom and is along for the ride.>> one thing we need to be watching here is nine of the last 11 races here have had finalgreen flag stretches of 35 laps or less. so it's not unusual to have a late race caution.so, you know, if i'm martin truex, i'm trying to put as many cars a lap down as i possiblycan. i keep the pressure on. there's also gameseparation between you and kyle busch when you come on pit road. he would not be ableto be on your bumper. so as many charges as you can get between you and kyle, that's anadvantage. mike? i'm sorry, marty. >> that's all right, jeff. i'll tell you whatcarl edwards struggling for that run. they've

had that condition for much of the race. italked to rogers this morning. a situational awareness. he said, listen. we need a topten out of this and that's it. carl did ask earlier about the points situation and whereit was. under a caution they told him they were up right now in a comfortable spot. rightnow, plus 26. so the car not handling the way they wanted to but not too worried aboutwhere they are. >> very surprised in this era of nascar whenyou get a free pass or you get the wave-around to have this few cars on the lead lap towardthe end of the race. 76 laps to go and only eight cars currently on the lead lap and potentiallyhe could catch up to joey logano who's returning sixth right now. joey logano is only two secondsin front of him.

>> by the way, a six-second lead over thesecond. >> that's really a dominant performance. remember, martin truex jr. was running second the last time the pit stops took place. he was runningsecond to jimmie johnson. how blistering of a pace he had been. truex jr. out front. 120laps already as we go nascar nonstop. so you're up at dawn,k, , look alive. you've been saving for a big man-cave.(chuckling) good luck with that, dave. you made the most of your retirement plan,so you better learn to drive that rv, man. so many things you're doing in your life.nationwide is on your side. one smart choice leads to the next.

currently sixth. let's go to kelli.>> kevin harr vk in t4 car racing, 45 laps down. remember early in this race they hada track bar mount break which sent him back to the garage to be fixed. obviously not whatthey were hoping for. but if there is mechanical failure, it would be now as they have wontheir round and have their spot secure. when i talked to the crew chief rodney childersabout the mood this week he said it's been loser. he said it's like a fresh breath ofair. it kind of has me in panic mode. you spend a lot of nights lying away but thisweek i got a lot of good sleep. >> he's won his way through.>> they were running well but they had this mechanical issue. no harm, no foul becauseof the mechanical issue last week. but this

team's ability to win races when they needto win races allows them to have bad races. that's what they have. sometimes they havegreat wins but that's because they had to have them. they dug themselves in a littleof a hole and they had to have those wins. they had a cushion to fall back on.>> i brought it up moments ago, the fact of the matter that there are only six cars onthe lead lap is very special especially with the free pass and wave-around where teamshave the opportunity to get back a lap that they had lost. so you see more and more carson the lead lap. well, that rule. the free pass rule was introduced actually in thisrace back in 2003 and sense that race, the fewest on the lead lap at the end of a racewas five in the june race of 2004 at dover.

so five cars on the lead lap and it's happenedat this racetrack back in 2004. the fewest cars on the lead lap.>> remember, that rule was put into place because you used to race back to the start/finishline. the caution would come out, race to the start/finish line. now you can't do that.>> marty. >> jimmie johnson with his attempt as theygot the penalty for being over the wall too early. maybe get the free parks get up thereand get a shot to get back in. the problem is that free pass scenario keeps changingabout every few laps. it seems like jimmie johnson was one spot behind. now six carson the lead lap. that's the problem for the 478. they've got four cars or three cars theyhave to get around in to get that free pass.

if you're jacking out, how would you playthe race knowing you have a ton of speed but not a spot to win any locker.>> unfortunately marty, i think you have to play the hand you're dealt. right now thehand is not waning hand. i think the 48 has the speed to win but beaten down in the tenthposition, they need to move. a wave-around would be a major gamble. ifthey didn't get caution, they could risk losing more laps. you see the 28 above the cut line.i this u you have to understand things didn't go as well. it was a mistake. it wasn't luck.it was a mistake. now they have to call the race in front of them.>> 25 laps until we'll see green flag pit stops again and what will more than likelybe the last stops of the day.

>> the beauty is martin true ek, as fast ashe is, he's not going to stop early, six cars in the lead lap. there's no need to take anyrisk. >> there were only six cars on the lead lap.if we do get a caution, then if you get a caution after that, there's only six carson the lap. so there's really no penalty if you're running third or fourth to put tireson. so, you know, that changes the way you can play your pit strategy with few cars onthe lead lap. >> coming into this race, we knew that ithad to be miss steak-free. the 42 of kyle larson was right on the cut line with histeammate jamie mcmurray and both have had issues today.>> we all thought he would run well and he

did have speed but he had an issue with thebatley. had an electronic issue. then the crew goes over to service the car. they startwith six guys, which is within the rules. one extra crew member highlighted. steps overthe pit wall. that makes seven guys. that's the penalty. they walk one lap. then two morelaps serving that penalty. a little later, a cut right front tire. basically doomed.>> then his teammates very early started talking about the vibration. said he was down at leastone, maybe two. they contemplated bringing in the car to the garage, seeing if they coulddo something before it blew up so ultimately it wouldn't blow up. they weren't able tomake that change. now he's out of the race and both of these teams most likely are notgoing to transfer.

>> right now the 42 of kyle larson is beingscored six laps down. it is the third season in the chase. it's the first time, though, for both cars, and they will be disappointing for chip ganassi racing to not be able toadvance once again out at the first round. >> i say most likely just because one of thethings i learned about this format, never say never. anything can happen, but certainlywith only a few laps left and as many laps as kyle larson is, six laps down, 61 lapsleft, he's going to gain those spots. there's going have to be pretty crazy stuff happeningbut he'll have to have enough time. >> martin truex jr. in front of kyle buschby 9 1/2 seconds as we go nascar nonstop from dover. if carl wins today, i'm gonna do abackflip. maybe when you're dreaming. guys,

he said it wasn't the right kind of tight.he said it's still loose on gas on entry and then he gets tight at about the two-thirdmark. they made adjustments and four tires and fuel, dave.>>> nice catch on the tire there, by the way. four-tire change, sunoco fuel and get himon his way. >> chase elliott comes off pit road. gonea full cycle through. this is the second consecutive stop that have been under green flag conditions. the only three cars on the lead lap.>> what this does is jimmie johnson is in fourth position a lap down but he's in lapposition if a caution were to come out at the moment. normally, jeff, we see when onecar pits, they all come to pit road.

>> 78 doesn't have to worry about anybodyelse. he has a 12-second lead. >> let's talk about the strategy as we'renow under 43 to go brought to you by smithfield foods. can you overcome what martin truexjr. has done already. >> you absolutely can. you can have late restarts.know that you're racing for points and recognize your mistakes. that's what 48 is going totry to do. >> marty.>> stevens asked him a moment ago. we're going to have a short run. figure out what you want.he said, i dodge know. figure out,000 get rid of an 11-second deficit. for martin trueengs jr., he said if anything the car is just a little bit tight. so cole pearn makes thecall.

>> brad keselowski was reminded again andagain and again by joey meyer, no mistakes as he came down pit road. four tires for bradkeselowski. it was a little snug on this run. makes it hard to turn in the center of thecorner. also looking good in the point. >> green flag, pit stops. no one wants tobe caught for speeding on pit road and nobody has as many times as hamlin has this year.>> remember there were 25 speed penalties. in new hampshire there were none.>> here comes 48. making their way onto pit road. they definitely don't want to have a speedingpenalty or any more problems as they have already put themselves in a little bit ofa hole, trying to dig out of it.

>> marty.>> rick, maybe to add a little salt to the wound for the 48 team, johnson thrilled withthe race car right now. calling for no changes on the car. they were in the free pass positionfor the end of that run. they can come out and be in a free pass spot. four fresh tiresfor the car. >> jeff gordon and carl edwards are 1-2 becausethey have not come to pit road yet. they'll be on pit road very shortly. the 23 gettingcaught for speeding on pit road, so david ragan gets pit road speeding penalty. jeffgordon leading in the 88 but still has to come to pit road and will be doing so herepretty soon as he sees chase elliott go by. >> this team doesn't have anything to lose.they're not raying for a championship. if

they can stay out and try to catch a caution, currently there's only four cars on a lead lap to make something happen. why not go forit. why not try something. >> lap 277, already have completed 370. justover the pit window which we predicted earlier. marty?>> and, rick, so far no move to pit road for carl edward. dave rogers told him a momentago we're going to leave you out and see what happens. we're going to take a caution beforewe come to pit road. a bold move for a team trying to make it into the chase on points.carl edwards. they've got to make it to the top like all the other leaders have already.>> i like the strategy call. just don't put yourself into a mistake. don'trun out of fuel on the racetrack. no harm

in staying out and attempting to win the race, but make sure you don't run out of fuel. it can be extremely worth it.>> i don't think it's worth it. why stand the chance of cutting a tire. what if youhave a tire problem. remember what you're doing. what you're trying to do is advanceto the next round. there's really no gain in doing this. it can help you, you know, but it has way, way more chance of hurting you, so i'd be on pit road. i'm just a littlesafer gambler than you are. >> i guess you're cautious. we'll call youcautious jeff as the 3 of austin dillon -- again, austin dillon currently running ninth, onelap down. only six cars on the lead lap. that's going to change again when jeff gordon andcarl edwards come to pit road. kelli.

>> jeff gordon comes down to pit road. hesaid the car is a little bit tight once he gets to the center of the corner. he saidhe needs to work on the entry of it but his exist off the turn is fine. you saw the adjustment.it will also be four new good year tires and fuel.>> carl edwards comes in. it's going to br four fresh new tires. been struggling on thehandle. carl said they got a little too loose. four new tires and air tire pressure adjustmentto get it better. >> they drop down to 12th and 13th respectively.martin truex jr. back on point and a nine-second lead over kyle busch, about where it was whenthese green flag pit stop. chase elliott running third. another strongperformance for that young man. brad keselowski

and matt kenseth and joey logano, the onlyother drivers on the lead lap. really impressed by chase elliott and what he's been able todo. chase elliott is going to advance. h ee is going to move on to the round of 12 andkeep his chase hopes alive as far as a championship. >> i thought what's really impressive is rememberhow fast this car was in chicago? everyone thought he was going to end up in victorylane, late caution. lots of stops. 78 beat him on pit road and 78 bite him in the race?that could have easily derailed a young driver in chase elliott, but instead he came focused, stayed back, didn't run great at new hampshire, doing what he needs to do to advance. reallyneeds to embrace, not like a 20-year-old young first-time rookie.>> 22 laps to go and it's been a very impressive

performance by martin truex jr. with those22 laps go, he'll end up leading with the most laps as he's getting close to the 41once again. marty. >> rick, what an amazing first round performanceit's been for the 78 team. here's the scary thing. next week at charlotte, they're bringingthe car that dominated the coca-cola 600 and the car also won at chicago for martin truexjr. i was talking to truex about the final four and trying to make it to homestead, miami, this year. he said last year my mindset was try to make it to the final four and see ifwe can make something happen. this year, my mindset is let's not mess it up and win. nodoubt about it. going into the chase, a lot of people thought the 78 would be addressed.they may have set themselves up as the favored

to win the title in 2016.>> well, when this team gets on a roll, you'd better watch out. they absolutely dominated charlotte. theyled 392 laps of the 400 at charlotte. this team is going to have to consider -- i don'tknow if you're saying if they're the favorite but they're certainly one of the two or threefavorites to this championship. toond avoid problems just like we've seen it by otherteams, but this team for sure has the speed to get it done.>> hey, look. i know the 78 has just, you know, unbelievable dominance. 184 laps. there'sonly six cars in the lead lap. when this team goes -- look at austin dillon. currently runningin the eighth position. we've seen cars cut

tires. we saw the engine failure on the one.he has an issue with four or five laps to go. he'll miss the chase still. no guarantees.all the drivers will smart and will have to finish this thing out.>> tony stewart is one lap down, running 14th. austin dillon also a lap down running eighth.but as you mentioned, if austin dillon has an issue, he could easily drop down to 18or even further down. take a look at the four first-time chase drivers. chase elliott, chrisbuescher, kyle larson, and austin dillon. out of this group, it looks as though twowill advance. chase elliott and austin dillon looking to make it into the round of 12 withjust 15 laps to go. >> i think that austin dillon and his team, they had to feel really good about what they've

done here today. this is a race when i talkedto him, he was more nervous about. he said i don't know so much about dover. in the firstround he felt good about chicago and new hampshire, was concerned coming into this race, but asolid run. at times in this race, they had the fastest car, they never had the trackposition to take advantage of it. if you had to take advantage of that, i think this teamhas to leave this race with a lot of momentum and feeling really good about this next round. >nonchasers. in the top ten, it's just jeffgordon. kasey kahne running 12th. aric amirola is 16. greg biffle, ryan newman, a.j. allmendinger.they're all nonchasers. >> i think jimmie johnson is trying to provea point here, we're never going to give up.

's consistently running better. the 48 istrying to unlap himself here, currently in the seventh position, mind you, trying tounlap himself. >> we talk about the lead pass. it's a hugelap from being one lap down and getting that free pass. when you get that free pass, youhave to start at the tail end of the longest line. if you're back at a lead lap, if a carbcoming out and you're pitting, you're coming out. anything can happen. so he's pushingit really hard right here to make something happen.>> >> longest green flag run. that will continue go up the track record. not even close. 500back in 1971. that record won't be broken any time soon if they continue to run.>> i appreciate that you ask me how that race

was. the 14 not looking good. 11 points outsideof the chase. the round of 12. and this being the last opportunity for tony stewart to wina championship in his final sprint cup series season.>> i think it's already been great that tony stewart was in the chase. daytona in february. he wasn't even in the14 car. had the back injury. no one knew how long he'd be out. he comes back, wins sonoma.so while he doesn't appear to have the great send-off that jeff gordon was lucky enoughto have by winning at martinsville, still a great chase in his career.>> that win at sonoma was really energizing to everybody. watching him have a chance towin. he showed a lot of consistency and speed.

looked really good. over the last month anda half, they have not been able to bring the speed to the racetrack. kind of the same ashis teammate. kurt busch has fallen into the sang them. although kevin harvick has continuedon. kurt has not. >> this is flashback to sonoma and the lastwin for tony stewart when the 11 made a mistake. denny hamlin goes a little bit high and thefinal turn. tony stewart takes advantage of it, makes the pass and takes the win. thatenabled him to to come back. you saw the fight of the driber14. he's always had is that. but it is said this will be his final season. under fivelaps go and right there is race leader martin truex jr. coming into this season before thestart of the season, martin truex jr. had

three career wins. three career wins. hisfirst career win came here at dover. but starting this season. he's looking as though he canwin. now under four laps go at dover. martin truexjr. has put on a great performance. there are only three cars left in the lead laps.the pace he set as well as what martin truex jr. has done with his lead.>> i think he found a good comfortable place to ride. doesn't want any part of that 19or 22. with only two to go, i think that's a wise decision.>> i don't think he was going to slow down enough to let the 48 go by. i think as muchas the 48 wants to prove a point, i think the 78 of martin truex jr., he wanted to provea point as well.

>> over 200 laps of green flag racing to endthis one as they come out of turn four. the white flag goes awn. martin truex jr. lookingfor his fourth win of the 2016 season and his second win of the round of 16. martintruex jr. has to solidify his position as the favorite for the 2016 championship ashe has dominated round number one and he's dominated at dover. he'll win again!>> ooh, baby! hell, yeah. we win, boyses. we win again. no mistakes. that's all we neededto do. good job, man. >> three of the last five races. when youtalk about momentum, this team definitely has it.>> we're going to victory lane. it's over. >> you back to about two years ago when martintruex jr. first started driving the 78 car.

they did not run as well. there was a lotof pressure on it. his girlfriend was diagnosed with cancer. a lot going on at the same time.there were rumors he wasn't going to be invited back. they got through that car and ever sincethen, they've been exceptionally fast. >> i think the addition of cole pearn as thecrew chief on the 78 team has really ramped things up for this organization. it just seemsas though martin truex jr. and cole pearn click, they have figured out how to get themost. right now martin truex jr. once again is celebrating at dover international speedway.the moment brought to you by sunoco, celebrating victories all season long.>> driving around. lets the race fans feel it.>> this is a good looking very class whether

celebration.>> yeah. >> kind of old school, isn't it?>> yeah. >> the year. think about the year. martintruex jr. right now needs to be absorbing every second of it. inches from winning thedaytona 500, dominates the coca-cola 600. wins the southern 500. what could be the crownjewel? enter the nascar playoff and dominate this.>> here's the statistic as he's getting back to victory lane. he has led more laps in thelast six races, again, the last six races, the laps he has led, more than in each ofhis prior seasons entering 2016, in his career. >> very impressive. but next week it all startsore again, you know.

>> reset the points.>> that's right. everybody enters next week with essentiallythe same amount of points. you're moving on but you've got to earn it again. no bonuspoints transfer. now everybody in the top 12 is equal and they'll have to bring it again.>> take a look at the chase grid. the top 12 will advance. the drivers that won't bemaking their way into the round of 12 will be tony stewart in his final season with cupseries, kyle larson, first time making the chase, and it will end after the first round.jamie mcmurray in his second chase. it ends after the round of 16 once again. and chrisbuescher, really the cinderella story of 2016 with his win at pocono, a single-car teamable to make it into the chase but won't advance

into the round of 12. you heard the fans cheeringas martin true e jr. flipped it around right in front of the grand stands on the frontstretch. waiting to fire it back up and head back to victory lane, and that's when we'llsee him next. practice went ok, but if he keeps pushing like that, what're you gonnado? here we go. can you feel it? the taste of coca-cola. cani get your autograph? yeah, sure. i can't wait to show my grandson.can you feel it? life flavors the bolder. like the taste of coca-cola. and you are thechampion! sfx: beep. beep. beep. beep. beep. today we'regonna be comparing these two truck beds. let's start over here with this aluminum bed. youput your toolbox up here... whoa! that's a

big hole. that is unbelievable. now let'scheck out the roll formed steel bed of the silverado. same spot, same empty toolbox.took it way better. the steel held up. it's truck month! find your tag and get over eleventhousand total value on this silverado all star. or, now through october 10th, get 0%financing for 72 months on all 2016 silverado pickups. find new roads at your local chevy dealer.>>> coming up next it's "nascar america" post race and then victory lap. kevin harvick, even though he had trouble today at dover, still a great story how he got to this pointin his career, his upbringing and his roots in the world of racing. everyone checkingthe lug nuts as he'll make his way into victory

lane once again. again, the fourth time alreadyin 2016 when martin truex jr. drove for michael waltrip racing, controversy at the end ofthe season in richmond, ended up losing a sponsor. it looks like martin truex jr. wason the outside of his racing career. didn't have a sponsor, no real ride to move forwardwith and then furniture row racing came calling and gave him an opportunity. the first year,a very difficult year for them at furniture row. but then things changed. things clicked.and now martin truex jr. definitely in position to win his first ever championship in thesprint cup series as he makes it back into victory lane once again.>> who would have guessed a team based in denver, colorado, could bring it every singleweek and compete, you know, when this team

was first started. everybody would say itwill never work. it's proved correct. >> getting to be old hat for martin truexjr. his girlfriend. >> martin truex jr. getting a world with colepearn as he savors this hometown victory in front of the fans. he's going to climb out. a little emotionalas well. martin truex jr., a winner at dover again. you can tell standing on the car, alittle extra, savoring the moment, looking at all the friends and family at victory lane.it's a packed victory lane. martin, i've gotten to ask you, winning in chicago, what kindof statement has the team of 78 made in round one here?>> we're not messing around. i don't know.

what else can you say. we're here to get itdone. golly, i'm telling you, just the best crew there is. the best bunch of guys youcould ever ask for. it's just amazing to drive the race cars and do what i that were ableto do. i'm just ecstatic. so many people to thank. again, this is just unbelievable. idon't even know what to say. especially here. i love this racetrack. it's been, you know, considered a home track for me for a long time. it's been since '07 since i won. a lotof heartbreaking. all in all, a phenomenal race car. furniture row, denver mattress, bass pro shops, auto-owners insurance, tex run, oakley. everybody who's made this happen.barney, thank you. i haven't seen him. must not be here. everybody back in denver, furniturerow. golly, man, i just -- it just -- i've

about got to pinch myself. it's unbelievable.thank you, sprint and the fans and everybody. what an awesome race. i'm ready to go to charlotte.>> you and i were talking. we said, listen, i have a better appreciate for it. how doesit make you appreciate what's going on having been in situations where you weren't as successful?>> i can remember going home on days really frustrated, you know, here for example, runningup front, have something happen and watch jimmie win ten of them and it's like, man, that's got to be unbelievable to win that many races in a year or that many races, period. i mean the last month has just-- month and half has just been ridiculous. it's just been a fairytale dream and all thecredit goes to these guys. the trv team. the

engine guys. i thought i blew it up. the victorylap was cool. that was for my buddy. he's given me a lot of advice over the years, alot of support. it was cool to be able to do that. all in all, this is just a dreamcome true. gievet a lot of friends here, family here, a lot of people with our foundationthat came all the way from my hometown, 150 busted down here. they met them before therace. they're there with their martin truex jr. towels washing as i went by. just awesome.looking forward to it. keeping this momentum going. the sky's the limit for this team.>> rick, you can tell the hometown team mean as little more tore martin truex jr. thisafternoon. >> absolutely. from the elation of victorylane to the disappointment of chip ganassi.

had two cars in the chase both eliminatedin the first round. the round of 16 is as far as they have got in their title hunt.and just moments ago kyle larson spoke with mike ma sar lowe.>> well, it certainly wasn't the day that kyle larson was hoping for in dover. an electricalproblem, a penalty on pit road. that seemed to seal your fate. what was the day like fromyour perspective? >> yeah. i don't know what happened with thebattery. lost power, lost laps. had too many over the wall. probe if we didn't have toomany men over the wall, i probably would have been already. i was a lap down. but whatever.nice little christmas present for austin there, buy us both ganassi cars. our chevys havebeen good every race.

we'll try. even though we don't have a shot, fifth in points, we're going to try to run it as far as we can.>> your first playoff experience, what might help you and the team be better next year?>> i don't know. find some good ju ju. i had bad luck in chicago. that right there. today'sbad luck. all the bad luck i've had in my career. doing know what i've got to do. staypositive. we'll come back next year and go for a championship. you know, our team camea long way this year from where we started a season. so hats off to everybody on theroad crew. hendrick engine, target, all the sponsors for all their hard work and effort.just didn't have good luck again this year. >> thanks for your time.>> yep.

>> not the day that kyle larson was hopingfor but certainly a season to be proud of thus far.>> absolutely. got his first cup win. with we heard from his teammate jamie mcmurray,he had an engine that expired, blew up early in the race, so mike talked to him earlier, but chip ganassi has to feel like the organization is headed in the right direction.>> yeah, but extremely disappointed. it's hard to step back and feel good about anything.you came in like you had a solid transfer to and you didn't transfer any. it's hardto feel good about it. when they step back, they'll realize they had made some gains.the question is what did you learn to take take to the next season. sometimes you don'tlearn but you've been there. you understand

what it feels like. i think that is kind ofwhat you learn. maybe not one specific thing but just that experience of being part ofit means something. >> mike massaro actually caught up with anotherdriver that doesn't advance into the round of 12. chris buescher.>> chrisescher came in to dover looking for a victory. that's pretty much what it would have takento advance. he didn't quite have the speed. what was the day like for you?>> it was an interesting day. you know, the guys worked really hard, put the effort inall year to be in this situation. you know, we had our heads held high. it was awesometo be par of the chase. that being said, we

wanted to move forward. we didn't get theopportunity. and the way the -- to play out the way we needed it to, but, you know, withthese races, with these long green flag runs, we haven't had a chance to work on it andget it dialed in closer, especially to not get any practice in this weekend. it's a toughweekend from that aspect but the car droesh good at times. i'm just looking at the boardnow, i can't believe how many cars were on the lead lap. that's a wild pace.>> talking to your crew chief, he said, whatever happens today, if we don't advance to nextround, it's still positive. we have something to build on. dwlou feel about it?>> the exact same. to have made it this far is a big deal for front row motorsports, thesmall team, and this being my rookie season.

these are a bunch of guys that are new toeach other for the most part. bob's a new crew chief for myself and both of us beingin the front row for the first time. there's been a lot of changes. it's not over. we havea chance to go out here for seven more races and see what happens.>> thanks for your time. >> thank you.>> great attitude. chris buescher still has snog accomplish in 2016.>> thanks, mike. we're still trying to track down and get to talk with tony stewart, theother driver that will not advance into the round of 12. obviously celebration continuesfor martin truex jr. he's getting used to this, being in the victory lane area and advancing.now it's time for the post race show.

>> thank you, rick.>>> yes, that celebration continues right behind us. we're high above victory lane. normally the race winner is the story. noquestion any time you have a win, it is big. but today in an elimination race, which thereare three of them, the story is really about those four drivers whose championship hopesare over. >> i think it is, but that's the story we'vebeen talking about all week. you know going into an elimination race, you know four peoplewill leave the party and they left the party. the bigger story is how they left the party.the other guy, the ganassi racing organization was eliminated because of errors and thingsand failures.

>> and we've talk about that. that's how yumake it through these rounds is not to make any mistakes, not let things happen. championship-caliberteams overcome things and make sure that a lot of the little things don't keep them fromadvancing. they did that. now i guess you're saying they can relax until they get to talladegafor a little bit which is not the truth because they're going to turn around and become pressuredcoming at us. it was unfortunate but that's what it does with everybody coming in. aswe talk about the four that were eliminated, we have to talk about the man that dominateand that is martin truex jr. >> i have to say something. i think chrisbuescher is just making this thing, huge, huge for that team. ganassi putting two carsin it this year compared to last year, that

was big. tony stewart being in it theechblast year to just have a shot, but i want go back on record and say they didn't getknocked out here. it's a three-race round. okay? they have three opportunities to makesomething happen. they just couldn't make something happen for those four teams in threeraces and other teams did. it wasn't how they did today. let's go back to chicago. let'sgo back to new hampshire. it's hue millive. >> they're eliminated. what about a first time chaser. he talkeda few moments ago with dave. >> a lot of speed we haven't seen this afternoon.>> give all the glory to god first off. he really, you know, put this race in our handsto giveaway. i'm proud of my team for building

a fast race car. rcr. thank you, guys, forworking on this thing. countless hours. we were able to make it to the next round. i'mproud of all my guys. thank you aaa, dow, american ethanol.>> what did you think? >> i don't care as lock as we're onto thenext round. it feels good. now it's time to knock some more of these guys out becausewe've got this opportunity and we're going to say we're going to be ujds dog in the nextround. let's go do it. >> how do you press any harder. org nice speed, change pit crews. what do you do in round two in.>> i think this was a great start. it was one of the fastest. i wanted to get more buti knew what was at stake. i felt like i didn't

want to push it too hard. we probably couldhave been a top five car pretty simply there. i didn't want to hurt our chances.>> tempered his day but moved through. austin dillon off.>> you skl see how pumped he is. he said a couple of things. three races in the round,he finished 16th at new hampshire. not a stellar day, but he was excited considering everythingthey had to come back from. >> he was really excited. i want to startwith something he said. does he not watch what we say and listen? he was the underdogin this round an he has listened. i'm telling you guys, i ooh going to give them the backbouns award, struggling through that race, that's what put him in the hold, not chicago.

new hampshire put them in a hold. i agreewith him. there was more this that car. if this had been a regular season race, we ewould have seen austin up there contending for a win or a second or third. he drove smart, did what he had to do today and he moved on. whether it's one or 11 like you said.>> this is a driver right now that is exceeding the race car as far as what it's capable ofdoing. he did an outstanding job. they're understanding the situation. now they foundmore speed here. they go to a couple of racetracks. he can get tone. yeah, he might be the underdog, but very capable of moving on because there's nobody better at getting more out of a carand not tearing equipment up as austin dillon does. that was an a outstanding job to comehere, understanding his job and coming here

to make it happen.>> if you go back to the beginning of the year or since nbc took over, pre-race, postrace, you heard us talk about most improved driver this year. he's become a team leader.i know ryan newman is there and paul menard and they've been there longer, but he hastaken the bull by the horns and he is absolutely steering that ship and he's willing that carand willing those guys to get better. this is the ascension, i think, of austin dillonto that position over there. >> and austin thanked someone else in thatinterview, slugger. the crew chief slugger has a lot do with that. a veteran crew chiefwho has sort of taken austin under his wing and moved them up to the round of 12. we'regoing to hear from more of the drivers and

we're going to be with you until 7:00. a lotmore from dover. >>> this copyrighted telecast may not be reproduced, retransmitted or used any any form without thauthorized written support. >>> welcome to the "nascar america" post raceshow. martin truex jr., the driver who finished first today. presented by advance auto part.martin truex and the 78 team continuing celebrate on victory lane. let's take a look at the"back on the road" moment and it belongs to the driver 24, chase elliott. the youngestdriver in the round of 16 in the chase and he advances. he is moving on to the roundof 12. a first-timer in the chase, a rookie in the sprint cup series, not even old enoughlegally to rent a car, yet he's driving this

car into the round of 12. there you see thechase. this is how they finished. now they will all be reset to begin at charlotte. they'llall start with 3,000 points. there you see the drivers who were also eliminated. tonystewart, kyle larson, jamie mcmurray, and chris buescher. their chances are over. chaseelliott, just begin nothing that was pretty sporty for chase elliott. what kind of burdenif anything were you carrying today at dover wanting to advance or were you free whealingit? >> we were trying to do our jobs not to overcomplicateit. if you get too worried about where you have to finish or what you've got to do, sometimesyou can run there. luckily for us, you know, that was -- we just had a solid day. i thinkthat's what we needed to do. the mountain

dew group, proud to carry their colors forthem. very cool brand. excited to be part of it.>> how much does that result increase your optimism for round two?>> i'm really department. that i oar doing such a good job. the guys are unbelievable.you couldn't ask for a better guy on top of the box. i'm really proud of them. i thinkwe're working our tails off to get to where we are. i think we even been building andgaining on some things we've been missing and this is the time to do it. >> 24 looking strong at the right time.>> they most certainly are. a few moments ago, kyle, you gave the bounceback award toaustin dillon. what are you giving chase elliott?

>> you know. i don't know. what should i givehim. the pediatric award? >> since he's only 20.>> since he's not graduated into the adult group? i don't know. i think he undersellshimself. he's so hard on himself when something happens. he undersold himself. they were eighth, nintenth, eleventh, twelveth. those guys are incredibly smart. they ee flying under theradar. all we're talking about is a rookie in the chase. what is he doing.>> how is he competing with these guys. age weiss, that may be true. as far as experience, who his old soul is and his dad and dale junior and everything, he's up from there.>> okay. he can't buy beer legally and can't rent a car. that doesn't make any differencefrom moving into the round of eight from this

point forward. what they've given him is fastrace cars to drive and that's all this young man needed. when hendrick motorsports losta little bit and the toyotas kind of took ore, we saw him struggle and i think thatthat gave myself and others some reason to doubt whether he would be able to make itout of this first round. they found that speed and he's done an outstanding job in thesethree races. i don't think pressure is going to affect him. if they continue to give himfast race cars h e has the ability and the -how to get it done.>> i would not be surprised if he one one of these races in the chase or the next round.like you say, they give him the car. he's been the bright spot of hendrick motorsportthis year.

i'll tell you. he's been the bright spot that'skept the guys going. even though the 48 has won races, he's outrun those guys. juniorhas had his issues. i think it's been well documented. when you look at it, i think he'sexactly right. rick hendrick knows how to pick them. now, i'm going to go back to whati said before. we used to have this say. we had a guy that worked with us. if this stuffwas easy, children would be doing it. watch this. that kid's doing it right there.>> you guys bring up a great point. i know they're all reseeded at 3,000 points. if youlook at the winnings, chase elliott is huer than championship brad keselowski, championshipkurt busch and champion jimmie johnson. >> he had somebody to teach him and he watchedgrowing up what his dad hall of famer has

been able to do. he's so much like him. thetemperament is there. we talk about him being hard. i think that's going to serve him wellbecause he expects a lot. we can't expect any more from him than he expects from himself.when you're in that situation as a competitor, that's all you can do is give 100%. i thinka lot of that came from being around his dad and watching him perform. he's so smooth likehim, it makes you understand why he's going to win races and possibly contend for championshipsfor a long time to go. >> maybe watching his dad and listening tohis mom is why he's so good. when you look at it, he's been given the opportunity andhe's maximized that opportunity. everywhere he's been, whether it's been the cars, latemodel cars or getting in and winning a championship,

he's not let the people who believe in himdown. he believes in them. they believe in them. they believe in thiskid. that's one thing that that team has. that believe continues to grow and blossomweek in and week out. you see it when he walks through the garage and in interviews. theconfidence. yeah, he might get down on himself. but the confidence he has in them and theyin him continues to grow. >> we talk about it a lot. this next roundhas been incredibly difficult. the way it's set up, it gets more difficult each and everytime, but these next three races, you've got difficult tracks, 12 in the best businessesthat are going to be competing against each other, and, oh, yeah, they end it at talladegatrying to make it.

>> i know. you have the mile and a half. and, yes, talladega. the fact that tall gueida is an elimination race and we saw it lastyear, anything can happen. we talk about this, kyle. the start of the pre-race show. we'venever seen a year with more uncertainty at least heading into the elimination race. whatare we going to see next round? >> you know what? talladega. it's been anelimination race. it's just a wild-card race. you're in this lane and it's working and allof a sudden you're in this lane. you're in somebody else's accident. you cause an accident.it's a mental health game. we throw three tracks in this first round that are differentracetracks. when we go to new hampshire and chicago. here, they're cookie cutters. they'reback to back. i understand the guys running

a mile and a half. when we get to tall gueida,we've seen it so many times. it's anybody's game.>> we're going to have two lucky drivers that when they show up to talladega, they don'thave to worry about what happened there. that's by winning at either charlotte or kansas inthe next two weeks. >> can i address something. we're on a horsetrack. it was for harness racing. it's not even ground.6'2", 6'2", and i'm on the short end of things. and i'm in heels. martin truex is going tojoin us when we come back. the winner in dover. oh, he's already here. we'll bring him overwhen we return.we return so, how's that medical thing going? well, the doctor said... sorry, what? i said, the doctor told me... excusez-moi?

the doctor said... no more public pools forme! snap into a slim jim when wendy's remodeled their grilled chicken sandwich, marinatingthe chicken lead to overhauling the bun with 7 grains and so on. and so on. because wendy'swouldn't stop improving until the new grilled chicken sandwich was deliciously different.and for a limited time get the combo for just $5. my business was built with passion...but i keep it growing by making every dollar count. that's why i have the spark cash cardfrom capital one. with it, i earn unlimited 2% cash back on all of my purchasing. and that unlimited 2% cash back from sparkmeans thousands of dollars each year going back into my business... which adds fuel tomy bottom line. what's in your wallet?

>>> there you see martin celebrating. is theresomething funny? >> no. champagne good in his eyes. his champagnedribbled out. >> you know this drill. we have talked withyou. i have something interesting. did you know you won the last three races when darlingtonwas canceled? >> there's a good chance that a hurricaneis coming up the coast. >> i like it.>> charlotte, it's probably going to rain. >> i don't like that part. but for you, thisis complete domination, especially in the first round.>> yeah. it's just been unbelievable. we worked toward this obviously all year long. lastyear we had a great season. we had goals coming

into this year. a lot of things changed. youknow, we didn't know how it was going to go. golly, it's just been -- it's been like afairy tale. it's been amazing. all of our guys are amazing. i'm a lucky guy to drivethat every week and be part of the team and give my insight and information and they runwith it. look what they do. it's just -- i'm just having a blast right now. we're takingit one race at a time. i know the pressure comes back next week and all that. but, man,i mean this team is strong and they're unbelievable. >> you know, you talk about that. you hada great year last year. when you look at that year, you say, golly, what a good year. everythingbut a championship. you set your goals, switch manufacturers. everything's so different.did you have to temper those goals or say,

well, it's a manufactured thing, we've gotto start over from scratch. how did it work? >> when you beat your owner's expectationsin the first ten races, you know you're doing good. barney thought it might take 10, 15races you never know. sometimes it takes a whole year. it's the people. i'm a lucky benefactor.>> i'm going to give you bad news over your good news. when you go to charlotte, you can'tlead by as many laps as you did back in may. >> that is a fact.>> you're going to lead a lot of them. talk about the next couple. it couldn't set upany better with the two racetracks that you've led many, many tracks.>> yeah, obviously we have a lot of confidence going in, charlotte, kansas city. both trackswe can win up front, we know we have a chance

at winning. talladega, we don't want to gothere. we're on the same page as everybody else. we'll make sure we're ready to go tocharlotte. all we can do is go there and do the best job we can do. we're going go therewith the same game plan as we did today. everything's going right. the team's got confidence. they'reon all the time. they're hitting stops, they've got confidence.they're not making mistakes. everybody is just doing their job. it's a total team effortto do like we did today. you know, did we have the best car? we were probably tied withthe 48 for the best car. he was strong. if he got out front, i don't know that i couldhave passed him. if he was behind me, he could have passed me. we didn't make mistakes, wemade it happen and we capitalized.

>> i want to bring up the 48 car. made a mistake.they get a lap down. but the last 10 or 15 lap, every time you looked in the mirror, there he was. how hard did you drive the last 10 or 15 laps to keep him down so he wouldn'tbe back in the game. >> i ran my race. honestly, i was runningpretty hard. i wasn't run 1g 10. i was running 9%. i was making sure i was being smart, beingcautious, but still running as hard as i could. that's where we ended up.>> martin, everybody is looking here in 2016 and saying, martin truex, what a great driverhe's become now, but i think many of us saw this years ago with xfinity championshipsand wins there and coming about and the difficulty of waiting for your time to come in the sprintcup series. you mentioned watching others

win a lot of races. now you're in that position.did you say this year, why not me, i might as well take advantage of this?>> yeah. just rolling with it. you know, catching that wave and riding it all the way to shore.taking advantage of this opportunity because you never know when it's going to end. younever know how it's going to work. not only in racing but in life. you've about got toenjoy the good times. we certainly are right now. i've had tough seasons. we've talkedabout it. but it makes you feel so good when all those years you say, i know i can do this.you have shining moments. you have moments where you show people that you can do it. something happens to take it away from you.it hurts so bad but you just keep fighting

because you know that you can do it. and finallypeople start to realize it when you get in a situation like this. this team's incredible.but you look at all the guys that have done this before me. they were incredible also.so i'm just -- i've got to pinch myself. it's so fun. we have a chance to win literallyevery weekend and it's unbelievable. >> i want to go back to that. last year kevinharvick's back was against the wall. he comes into the race. they win the race. i can'tremember what they were chanting, what the team was chanting down there. you said something.is this the team motto? we're here to get it done? that's what you said. you said, we'rehere to get it done. >> these all we're here for. what else arewe here for. the momentum. we've got everything

it takes. it's so hard to win a championship.dale know. you know because you've tried to win one. it's so difficult and we feel likewe have that opportunity sitting there. can we -- can we grab it. can we take it. we thinkwe can. but we're going to find out in the next eight weeks.>> well, martin, congratulations. >> good luck.>> we asked you when you were here after your win in chicagoland, i said charlotte was redemption.this was a statement for that 78 team. >> definitely, definitely.>> yeah, i think it was based on how it was a total team effort throughout the weekend.we had confidence. yesterday at practice, i think we ran 12 laps but we knew those 12laps didn't mean anything, but we went with

our gut. we reached back into the locker fromlast time, the notes from last time and put in what we thought was going to work today, not yesterday, and we had a great car all day long. congratulations on your shining moment.>> thank you. >> thank you very much.>> martin truex got his first career cup they advance into the round as well. here at outback, the steaks have definitely been raised! we've taken our tender, center-cut sirloin, a crispyhash-brown cake, and topped them high with grilled shrimp on the barbie, or onion rings.hurry in... outback steak towers... start at just $ 15.99. modern rhythmic music scorewindows change on the beat of the music beautiful
